| lainey3eb | 113 | 111 | -5 | 106 | 0.94 | - Sacramen-toeJam / Haven't seen you in a while - I'm happy to see people really going out of their way to find strong songs that fit the theme..
This was a banger the first time through the playlist, but unlike some other songs on the list I weirdly liked it less on later listens. Maybe because the chorus progression didn't go anywhere interesting.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Haven't seen you in a while - I feel like I should like this song but I don't. Maybe it's because the string bass and violins are super aggressive. Sing into my mouth?
- Sacramen-toeJam / Back in time - Again, sucker for a well-produced pop song.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Back in time - First time listening to Arcade Fire. Interesting, I noticed that while there's a lot of tension built up, they choose not to have a strong resolution - the "coming home" moment, the EDM drop, a sudden key change or high note. It really adds to the unsettling vibes. It's impressive.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Horn-y - Hard to choose any particular Cake song, but this is a solid pick. Meets the theme, fun song and connected to Sacramento.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Horn-y - A classic, but IMO really requires you to be in the right mood. Opinions on whether people have sex to this song?
- Sacramen-toeJam / Next! - I think this song isn't meant to be listened through in one sitting - more meant for a DJ to mix with other songs. So even if it kind of drags after a while I think it's really good if you listened to it in 90-second chunks...
- Sacramen-toeJam / Next! - One of my less favorite 3eb songs, but a great and non-obvious choice in terms of theme. I have to give 3eb credit for being much better musicians than I remember (instrumentals from 1:45 to 2:30)
- Sacramen-toeJam / You're So Vain - Creative thinking, but I hate both Lil Wayne and Drake / red flag.
Wayne coming at us with lazy-ass rhymes / hashtag
I don't even remember Drake in this song / Millie Bobby Brown
This song is still catchy & a unique genre / I won't vote it down
- Sacramen-toeJam / You're So Vain - A classic that I never really understood why people liked so much.
- Sacramen-toeJam / I Want It All - First impression is a bit negative. Too fake-retro? But I started bopping my head after a few listens. I'm not going to overthink it, it gets a point. I bet they're great live.
- Sacramen-toeJam / I Want It All - I used to have a lot of 80s pop in my playlist, including this song. Years later, I'm not sure I like this song much.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay - (7/10 laziness) Things that happen while sleep walking:
*Sleeping
*Walking
+1 point for taking a risk with no vocals
- Sacramen-toeJam / Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay - (10/10) ways it's easy to be green:
* lack speed
* stand around til 2012 AD
* wait for written invitation
* procrastinate
The lyrics to this one are pretty good but I couldn't get into the song itself. I think it's the style of singing.
- Sacramen-toeJam / I Want to Love You - I'm probably not the only one who'd only ever heard the Lauryn Hill version before and loved this one.
- Sacramen-toeJam / I Want to Love You - Ladies and gentlemen, Mr. Burt Bacharach!
I had assumed Dusty was black. Hmm. I bet that's pretty common.
- "Sacramen-toJam - Disk 2, hidden tracks - Halloween" / Tricks and Treats - That is a lot of setup for a Matthew Perry tribute and I kind of love it
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / I have a dream! - My first time hearing this artist, so I was extremely surprised that the singer is a male. It doesn't seem to be a falsetto? That's really distracting. But more importantly, I think I'd like the song more if the energy of the bass matched the vocals better instead of being a heavy-thumping lullaby. Well, it's probably just that I wasn't in the right mood to listen to this one.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / I have a dream! - My favorite version of this song - I heard he did this in one take in the middle of the night, which explains why he just kind of beatboxes at the end of the song and trails off, haha. It's probably one of the less on-topic songs but the theme is forgiving so I won't dock points for that.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / It takes two - I appreciate the helpful comment, but no boybands! It's in the theme description! Just kidding. Definitely interesting like most later Beatles songs but I didn't vibe with this. I don't like sitting through the boring verse to get to the chorus, I guess.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / It takes two - I have always hated this song. I just don't get it. Extreme are the Hoobastank of the *checks notes* early 90s??? I thought for sure this was from the 70s.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / Hungry for more - Obligatory 2 points for a song I seriously considered, and because I predict this one might get fewer points than it deserves. The 90s bands were all about this quirky kind of lyrics, and this was the apex of quirky songs. At the time it made sense for musicheads to identify as Alternative, but looking back as an old dude it was kinda trying too hard?
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / Hungry for more - Take Me to Church's Chicken and Cannibalism
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / Happy Birthday! - Actually didn't mind this much but I have an irrational dislike for Michael Groban and this style in general.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / Happy Birthday! - Well, it's creative I guess... I'll give it a point to make up for my complaint last week about inappropriate Carpentry. I'm not going to judge their songs so leniently in the future!
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / Back to Basics: School of Rock 101 - I don't know why I'm angry about spending one point for this goddamn masterpiece of a song, but I am.
After a stupid amount of reflection I think it's because it's not a rock riff. That's not a deal breaker but I think it is kind of against the spirit of the round.
+3 Chris isaak
-2 not a rock song
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / Back to Basics: School of Rock 101 - Like Hotel California, my first reaction was 'oh no'. This downvote is not a reflection on the quality of the song, but the memey nature of the opening riff. Even though it is played through a lot of the verse, I don't think that's even the most important or memorable part of this song. (Because maaaybe...)
If I didn't give points to Teen Spirit, I definitely can't put wonderwall on the same level.
Anyway, here's a -1.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / I Love You, Man? - A good song from my favorite band, so it gets a point from me.
Do I think the song is theme-appropriate about loving Fridays, or less appropriately about being in love on Friday? Are there perhaps more deserving songs? Irrelevant!
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / I Love You, Man? - I never worry (about music league standings). Now that is a lie.
Too far off topic, plenty of songs about really loving drugs to count this one. Probably this was selected for "take me to the place I love" or "loving LA", but that's not central to the downer lyrics.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / But Wait—There’s Myrrh - Is it weird to say that this song always sounds better in the arrangements that don't have the children singing? Still, a really fantastic jazz standard for piano and my favorite "modern classic" on this list.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / But Wait—There’s Myrrh - The creepy old man is really just a lonely old man!
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / Guilty Pleasures - Jason
Guilty 1/5
Pleasure 4/10
Dave Matthews fans don't care whether you know that they like Dave Matthews, and this is the most mainstream Dave song.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / Guilty Pleasures - Emily
Guilty 3/5
Pleasure 5/10
Honestly I think people mostly respect this song, but it can be overly cutesy.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / We're going HARD! - A great throwback but I ran out of points. A little bit of a shame this super-talented band became mostly known for this semi-satirical totally-brainless song, but Damon Albarn (Gorillaz) has done pretty well for himself anyway, and this song should do well in this round...
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / We're going HARD! - This is a shock. I'm actually giddy. I didn't think anyone here would be a fan of, or know of, this song. One of my absolute favorites (maybe one of you stole this from my AOL profile in the 2000s??)!
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Say what now? - I floated a lazy turtle /
He juggled to me his Honduran toys /
'twas an Ed Sheeran song but blurple /
You earned yourself some points
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Say what now? - Fits the prompt, new to me, I think, but just not digging the vibe much.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Let's go to the movies! - Not really a fan of this movie. Cool effects for the time, though.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Cover me! - Emma
This was definitely my favorite song on the playlist. Such swagger!
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Cover me! - Emily
This actually might be new to me, but I probably wouldn't seek out this cover to listen to again... I love the original.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Sacré Bleu! A day in the life of Michel(Gilmore Girls) - French ✅
Upbeat ✅
Sanity ✅
I was also going to go with a Phoenix song but you beat me to it.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Sacré Bleu! A day in the life of Michel(Gilmore Girls) - Thought long and hard about this one. Not my cup of tea but fits the theme well.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Beach Mismatch. Are your choices Kenenough! (Barbie) - A classic and one that I could've submitted myself. I guess the thing I would quibble with is, he honestly seems to have a pretty positive relationship with meth so is it really a mismatch of lyrics? Drug people always think songs about drugs are songs about how great drugs are... Can I get a Stephan Jenkins expert to settle this issue?
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Beach Mismatch. Are your choices Kenenough! (Barbie) - Ehhh
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Country Cover (Beyonce) - Hmm. I liked this a lot more than the other heartless bastards song in another league ("Gates of Dawn"), partly because her voice sounds less androgynous. This one has a 60s feel to it, kinda?
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Country Cover (Beyonce) - I don't know many Neil Young songs, I could see this being a nice chill song to cover if you were in the right mood.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Bachelor Nanny TV (Soldier of illusion, Documentary Now) - Emily.
Its not often that you guys submit a song that makes me go, "I don't know this... oh, I DO know this song!"
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Bachelor Nanny TV (Soldier of illusion, Documentary Now) - Emily
I think this is for secret diary of a call girl? which has the doctor who lady in it. On one hand, I've never seen this show and I didn't like that Who character, but I like the song a lot. So...
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Words don't matter - First time hearing the Russian version so that's pretty neat...
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Words don't matter - 1977??? Amazing how little singer songwriters have changed... Pretty good though.
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Childhood nostalgia - Actually I only really know this song from the movie Major League, where Charlie Sheen is a baseballer whose pitches go wild because he needs glasses. Also, the Troggs did the song that got covered for 4 weddings & a funeral ("love is all around") that later became the love actually song...
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Childhood nostalgia - Probably should get more points but that's the way the musical cookie crumbles
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / No vocals needed - I bet Joe Satriani always plays this with his eyes closed and making a stank face while pointing his guitar at the heavens. Nice.
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / No vocals needed - Dead hot kill-y perp-er
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Play Submission (Setting) - Has someone been watching EastEnders? The song is pretty dated, down to the spoken-word, synthesized trumpet and cowbell sounds. But a great setting and almost gave it 2 points just for that.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Throbbing Attraction (Character) - hoping for a killer nun and queen team-up. please let this happen.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Grasping and Heaving (Story Goals) - I love this song, and the love triangle setup is a can't-go-wrong classic.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Bedroom Experiment (The Scientist's Tale) - Wasn't feeling it this round. I think there's a bit of tonal mismatch between your description and the song's relaxed vibes.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Bondage and Duty (the Queen's Tale) - Out of all the artists I ended up liking after hearing them in music league, Harry Styles is probably the most unexpected for me. An interesting story direction also.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Bad Habit (the Nun's Tale) - I wouldn't describe myself as a fan, but F+tM songs are often the best listen on most playlists.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Drama, Actually... and Tease (Epilogue and Cliffhanger) - This is up my alley. It's pretty cinematic.
- 2024, we hardly knew you / Who was that again? - Redbone and Dobie Gray are totally going to split some votes...
- 2024, we hardly knew you / Smaller is Better - Nice. Makes me want to browse other songs by this artist.
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite movie title song/theme song - I think I know who picked this one. (sigh) Despite that I'm still gonna give it a point.
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite original song from an animated movie - (sigh)
- Movie Music Magic / Thriller - a song from a movie that gives you the chills - the 90s are going to make less sense to our kids than the 60s did to us.
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song used in a romantic moment in a movie - Bonus point for resisting the urge to use Mariah Carey
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song sung by a character in a non animated movie - +2 interesting pick
-1 missed opportunity to not have Tony Danza in the cast
- Change of Pace / Good Riddance but also I Need You Back - you get a point because my whole life, until now, I've literally never listened to any ELO song (I am whelmed).
- Change of Pace / Old Enough! はじめてのおつかい - Agreed. Makes sense not to choose something from the earlier albums, even though that's technically her adult post-Disney breakout.
- Change of Pace / Not Horny Enough - Thanks for perverting the reference to Kingdom Come. You understood the assignment: to ruin beloved songs.
- Change of Pace / Better-than-Okay Boomer - Eh, I actually prefer the original which I think hits hard enough without all the DJ fluff. This remix is a bit like the musical version of when someone turns saturation all the way up on their photo filters. But I applaud the way you roll, going with a dead man for the "still relevant" round.
- Change of Pace / Stop, Wait a Minute - Nice song that's new to me. Great stops, good horn-y song. Glad this was first on the playlist.
Having said that I'll be pleasantly surprised if this gets a lot of points 😂
- Hey DJ! / Guilty Pleasures - "my biggest weakness is I work too hard and have high standards"
- Hey DJ! / Tongue Twists - Always liked this song, I'll one-up you; I thought Cheb Mami was a woman
- Hey DJ! / The Big Ask - I imagine the planetarium is only there for teenagers to prompose and everyone's waiting for a different flashmob/jumbotron moment.
I gave this an extra point because I want more non-Barbie Dua Lipa love in our leagues. And also this is the (superior) version without Da Baby, nice.
- Hey DJ! / $@#?! - honestly the only reason this doesn't get a point is because I think the radio edit works well enough. This is what happens when you find a stranger in the Alps!
- Hey DJ! / Cover Me Badly - I waffled on whether to give this points because it's too fun, Shatner has always been in on the joke and leans into the camp. But this was the most creative, I enjoyed the sweet sweet suffering, and hope you get a lot of points this round.
- Beginnings / Debut - Same, and I also considered this song. The important question though... is anybody else here a fan of the show 'Derry Girls'?
- Beginnings / Summer Starts - summer driving song solidarity
- Beginnings / If At First You Don't Succeed - very horn-y
- Into the Void / N.I.B. - Heard this song so many times but never really thought about the lyrics much
- Into the Void / Spiral Architect - I've always wondered, do placentas often fall to the floor? Even if you're doing a midwife birth, I feel somebody would catch it. Does it defy one's grip and squirt out of hands like a water balloon?
- The Singularity / Man vs Machine - Best chorus singing of all the songs
- The Singularity / Man vs Machine - Much electronic. Very wow. No votes left
- The Singularity / Embiggened Language Model - Excellent pick
- The Singularity / This is Fine - I'd like to think this is how we'd actually sleep in vats, but I'll be surprised 😭
- The Singularity / Irreplaceable - One of those 'oh that's what this song is that I've heard somewhere before' moments
- The Singularity / Irreplaceable - A point because it made me look up a ridiculous gif of an anime character with a buzzsaw in his hat whose name is Robert E O Speedwagon
- Music Through the Decades / The 1990s: The Basement Tapes - This takes me back and pushes all the right buttons. I'd forgotten how good they were at putting words together in fresh ways that evoke vivid emotions. You probably wouldn't want to read a book in this style, but damn
- Music Through the Decades / The 2000s: Guilty Pleasure or Secret Genius? - Nelly and Timbaland was an amazing combo. Excellent album from start to finish. Say it Right will always get me up and dancing
- Music Through the Decades / Time Traveler's Choice - I think there's a theme to the retro songs that I like on this playlist...
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Storytime! - A favorite of mine. I always thought of it as a ghost story. Is the war as righteous as the unreliable narrator thinks? I feel like it's a commentary on the human cost of 'patriotism'.
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Storytime! - Surprisingly other than We're Gonna Be Friends, I think this is the first Jack White song across all my music leagues
- Music Through the Decades / The Lost Decade - The cello might be my favorite classical instrument
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Out of the ordinary - I know this song from a Netflix show about kids going through puberty, so I just imagine this is about Black Sabbath all having hormone imbalances
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Out of the ordinary - I felt like this one wasn't so far from her style, but I did like that it was made for the Austin Powers movie
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Excellently Explicit - I think I lack the catholic background to properly appreciate the lyrics. Might be the most faithful use of classical instruments I've ever heard in a pop song (compared to, say, Diddy or Kanye using violins or symphonies playing metal songs). Don't really like the German chorus aesthetic but like I said, I'm not of that religious/cultural background.
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Excellently Explicit - I dig it, and the part where she interpolated Air Supply's "All Out Of Love" ('smoke on your skin...') was unexpected
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Kids songs - Christopher plummer was like 35 when he played the old dad in this movie 😅
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Kids songs - Yeah, this one gets stuck in my head.
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Short and Sweet (or not) - I think this will be several peoples favorite track this round
- New beginnings / This isn't me - I went through a very brief Gipsy Kings phase. nice.

| Jason | 101 | 87 | -3 | 84 | 0.83 | - Sacramen-toeJam / Haven't seen you in a while - I don't like Sinatra that much, but I like giving points to songs that stand out as different or add to the variety of the playlist.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Haven't seen you in a while - I'm calling J on this one. Tell Mama you're taking home a bunch of points! I hate Ozzy's Spotify bio and his general attitude, but this is a damn good ballad.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Back in time - An inspired choice! I think Pooh got stuck in the hunny jar while footloose in the Danger Zone.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Back in time - Glad to be reminded of this song. Used to listen to REM a lot with my sisters.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Horn-y - I'm conflicted on this one. In terms of composition and production, it hasn't aged well in the TikTok era - except for around the verse "because my love for you..." *chefs kiss*. But that verse/prechorus is pretty awesome and I'd like more risk-taking Bowie-type songs in the league. Bowie definitely had sex listening to this song on repeat
- Sacramen-toeJam / Horn-y - My first thought was that this was an advertisement because I'm using the free tier. My second thought was no, it just sounds a lot like an ad. My third thought was oh, the Artist Bio actually says, "we got started by making ads". Aside from that, it's a neat song that happens to sometimes be used as an ad. This song, Kill This Love, and Close to Me have the best use of horns within a non-horn song. And it's a short song, which is a plus.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Next! - One of the songs I enjoy most this round, but not quite on-topic enough / personal favorite enough to get that 2nd point in a strong field.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Next! - This is my "I just can't get into this" song for the round, but I started to appreciate it a bit more after repeated listens.
- Sacramen-toeJam / You're So Vain - Totally forgot about this song. Good but pretty dated in that early 00's way. The best of the "You have a huge ego, and you suck" songs this round.
- Sacramen-toeJam / You're So Vain - This is more like an A Star is Born song than a You're So Vain song, so I put my downvote here.
- Sacramen-toeJam / I Want It All - A bit too long, but I respect it. I heard they have songs about wizards and fairies? And young Ozzy was actually hot instead of looking like a ghoul?
- Sacramen-toeJam / I Want It All - I liked this song more after repeated listens, and MJ singing about groupies is about as bizarre as Kanye in the last round talking about self-awareness.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay - (1/10 laziness) On a good day, Ice Cube:
* Got grub on
* Hit switch and made car's ass drop
* Played basketball (no triple double or fucking around today)
* Hit showers
* Ran the intersection
* Played dice and watched Yo! MTV Raps
* Pulled out the jammy and killed the punani
* .. more, that's only 2/3 of the song so far
I like the song and will probably put it in my song rotation, but can't give it more because Ice Cube is an extremely busy man who probably needs a personal assistant.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay - (?/10) Whoa
* Whoa
This was a tough no-points decision but I think the lyrics are kind of inconsistent with the theme, even if the music is very on point.
- Sacramen-toeJam / I Want to Love You - I love and hate 80s nonsense songs ("Safety Dance"). Why this one narrowly avoided a downvote: I like the Oompa-Loompa on the album cover art.
- Sacramen-toeJam / I Want to Love You - I will be surprised if this is not by Emma. I never resonated much with Heart, unfortunately. Another case of "I *should* like this, but...".
- "Sacramen-toJam - Disk 2, hidden tracks - Halloween" / Tricks and Treats - This is probably the only song that is actually appropriate for getting into the seasonal mood...
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / I have a dream! - This is a bit of a stretch for the theme but I'll allow it. Haven't listened to Dave Matthews in a long time.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / I have a dream! - Yup, that's Bowie doing Bowie things... or Ziggy things....
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / It takes two - Another song and movie that I've never liked. I'm sure it will get a lot of points, though, so don't mind my grumbling.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / It takes two - Before this the only song I knew was Straight Up. This was a fun time warp. Probably not something I would listen to a lot, but this was the most interesting new song.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / Hungry for more - I only hear Stewie Griffin.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / Hungry for more - Eh, a point for nostalgia, but I never particularly liked POTUSA (yeah, I know I'm a hypocrite for submitting them in that other round...)
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / Happy Birthday! - In other circumstances this would definitely have earned more points from me, but the field was extra good this time...
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / Happy Birthday! - Simpsons cameos are so weird. Also I think MJ was married to _Lisa_ Marie at the time?
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / Back to Basics: School of Rock 101 - No stairway ✅
Amazing technicals and feeling that makes you want to play air guitar ✅
Doggie! ✅
This is my winner for following the spirit of the round. (Listened to this while with the other groomsmen at a wedding. Some of them suggested Kashmir as a stronger song but I'm not someone who knows Zeppelin that well.) I thought this was a fantastic choice.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / Back to Basics: School of Rock 101 - Probably the only song by them I'd accept, other than that one song about an actual guitar. Wanted to give a point because of how iconic this little jingle is, but I'm tight on points.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / I Love You, Man? - A much more interesting pick than California Love or California Dreaming, and a unique genre that I would like to get more into.
The lyrics are what pushed me to give the +1 over the Metal (and Saturdays).
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / I Love You, Man? - I'm pretty sure this is an Elaine pick because it's hard to score.
On the one hand, it's somewhat catchy, unique, the music video has some cool dance footwork from the 80s and 90s. On the other hand, it's TOO nostalgia-baity & you've got to dig into the vague lyrics to find out that it's about "the times when you had control", apparently. Asking a lot of a new listener! I guess this is meant to be appreciated on multiple levels and eventually Twin Shadow could become a favorite of mine.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / But Wait—There’s Myrrh - I made my family disappear
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / But Wait—There’s Myrrh - +soundtrack-y
+Xmas-y
+Nice tune, the Elf-Man rarely disappoints
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / Guilty Pleasures - Jason
Guilty 4/5
Pleasure 3/10
Laaady
Whoa oh oh oh ohhhh
I hope this gets played on repeat as a romantic gesture in one of your households
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / Guilty Pleasures - Helen
Guilty 5/5
Pleasure 5/10
This is the "better on repeat" winner this round, and also "guiltier on repeat". Adding to the guilt factor, its music video is pretty questionable, with product placement and showcasing a bunch of dudes on skateboards and one love interest who looks about 20 years older than Mandy
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / We're going HARD! - It's amazing that this song was released in between Love Me Do and Here Comes the Sun.
An unconventional pick, but I love it for this round. If you like this and also more contemporary rock vibes, check out "Cochise" by Audioslave, which has a similar wall of sound + primal scream vibe. I wanted to submit that but chose the more listener-friendly "Show Me How to Live" instead.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / We're going HARD! - Another deep-ish cut,so I'm guessing this is Jason.
I like how Tool is basically Art Metal. They do a lot of things that sound unmusical but are actually really cool once you notice.
For instance, if you try to snap fingers or bob your head to most of the other songs on this list, you won't have any problem (every 2 or 4 beats). With Tool though, you generally cant unless you REALLY know what you're doing (I can't). It throws the listener off and gives the song an edgy feel.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Say what now? - These are the votes of disarray, for being similar to my own song(bush)
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Say what now? - A point for a song I used to listen to a lot. I think my mentality and overall youth would have been much better if I hadn't been the kind of person who thought this was an amazing song. But it is an amazing song.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Let's go to the movies! - 🐧🐧🐧❄️🛝🐧
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Cover me! - Jason

This must be an offering to Mr Wiffles.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Cover me! - Emily
Wondering which one of you guys is a Tom Jones fan and also amazed that this works so well. Though I'm not sure casual people know the talking heads original... but this is definitely an improvement on it IMO.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Sacré Bleu! A day in the life of Michel(Gilmore Girls) - Is Michel like, a weirdo?
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Sacré Bleu! A day in the life of Michel(Gilmore Girls) - I can't take the Weeknd seriously after what I've heard about his HBO show (19% on rotten tomatoes)
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Beach Mismatch. Are your choices Kenenough! (Barbie) - I don't really get it.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Beach Mismatch. Are your choices Kenenough! (Barbie) - Not sure, but I think this falls under "somebody just wanted to submit a favorite song."
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Country Cover (Beyonce) - I like this version too. I haven't heard it in years, but it's still neat.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Country Cover (Beyonce) - I think Boyz II men would do better with our group.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Bachelor Nanny TV (Soldier of illusion, Documentary Now) - Mike
One of the first ones I thought of. I might actually like this better than the original.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Bachelor Nanny TV (Soldier of illusion, Documentary Now) - Jason
Nice reference. I don't know if I like the song that much, but this was a series/song that seems so obvious in retrospect...
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Words don't matter - I'd like to give this 0.5 and Ti Amo 1.5, but instead I'll give them both 1.
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Party picks - Pitbull so catchy
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Party picks - The opposite of Dynamite, never seemed to get the crowd going as well as it should have, despite being so popular.
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / No vocals needed - Unpopular opinion alert: i think i would like this one better if it was either more Ennio Morricone or more Metallica.
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / No vocals needed - I've never really listened to Dark Side of the Moon, I'm not a progrock kind of guy. But I looked up the Wizard of Oz crossover version. Dorothy meets the scarecrow. Would have been better if this was synced up to the moment where the film goes from b&w to color.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Play Submission (Setting) - hurts not to give a point to this song, but for the purposes of this round, gotta go with the others.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Throbbing Attraction (Character) - I like the vibe on this the most out of all this round's playlist.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Grasping and Heaving (Story Goals) - For this difficult prompt you guys rose to the occasion. Rooting for this one to tie with Footloose so that we can mix it with "guilty feet have got no rhythm".
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Bedroom Experiment (The Scientist's Tale) - Not in the mood for this kind of music, but I'm sure younger me would have loved it. A neat and unique vibe to pick for this story.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Bondage and Duty (the Queen's Tale) - Is the Queen not an ambi-turner? I thought about submitting this song for the "Confusing/Mismatched Lyrics" round, but on learning more about the song I decided it's actually completely on point as a song about raunchy gay sex.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Bad Habit (the Nun's Tale) - Sigh, I'll take the bait. *double upvote* I do like the setup here...
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Drama, Actually... and Tease (Epilogue and Cliffhanger) - OK, this was trippy.
- 2024, we hardly knew you / Best of 2024 - In my mind this was the year of "Espresso", no doubt. I like her "Juno" almost as much.
- 2024, we hardly knew you / Who was that again? - A point for uniqueness/risky song choice, and because I've never heard this before, and because getting 1984 MJ just to sing chorus is incredible.
- 2024, we hardly knew you / Where was that again? - Cheesy as hell 🔥
- 2024, we hardly knew you / Smaller is Better - Someone needs to sit down and have a chat with Nick about cultural appropriation
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite movie title song/theme song - Fun listen, even though I'm sure we'll all be tired of animated movie songs by the time this league is over
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite original song from an animated movie - Such a memorable tune
- Movie Music Magic / Thriller - a song from a movie that gives you the chills - I like the weird al parody video.
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song from a non-animated movie musical - + may be my favorite even though every song this round is pretty great
+ unique and surprising movie pick, sharing Henson DNA with my own Muppets pick
- a 40 year old goblin king sings about slapping a kidnapped baby, and is in love with the baby's 16 year old sister
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song used in a romantic moment in a movie - A little before my time, so I didn't know this Thomson Twins song... but a great comment and scene.
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song sung by a character in a non animated movie - Glad you included the youtube link! I don't think I'll ever watch this movie, so I don't really get it. I'm not sure I'd get it even if I did watch the movie. Like the song though.
- Change of Pace / Good Riddance but also I Need You Back - One of my less-favorite STP singles, but that chorus is really quite good.
- Change of Pace / Old Enough! はじめてのおつかい - Not sure why, but never liked this song. Maybe it's because of all the gasping (I have misophonia), like he's doing thirst-quenching outtakes for a never-ending Sprite commercial.
- Change of Pace / Better-than-Okay Boomer - Nice one. Spotify listens don't always reflect how the album was played back in the day. It's interesting that Shape of My Heart is now (probably deservedly) the most well-known track on this album.
- Change of Pace / Stop, Wait a Minute - Nice but I think I do probably have to be drunk to really get into it.
- Hey DJ! / Guilty Pleasures - I probably would have voted for another specific Enrique song
- Hey DJ! / Tongue Twists - Maybe it says something about my terminally online habits that the novelty has worn off of 'cutesy girls doing metal things'. I would've liked to have a couple more points to spread the love around but our league admin is a real Scrooge about points
- Hey DJ! / The Big Ask - Love the song choice, but maybe too public/disruptive choice of venue. I dunno, do lunch ladies have time for shenanigans?
- Hey DJ! / Cover Me Badly - yeah, it's much much crappier than the original (which I will not comment on). You're gonna get so many points.
- Beginnings / Debut - I feel like it would've been better to pick a lesser-known song. Lots of good songs on this cd. Like, really great songs, actually...
- Beginnings / Summer Starts - Fine, I guess I like at least *some* of this kind of vibe music made by dudes just aimlessly noodling around in basements
- Beginnings / If At First You Don't Succeed - timeless
- Into the Void / Fairies Wear Boots - Despite the sacto connection, never got into this band. Apparently they are actually more successful with late GenZ than they were with millennials.
- Into the Void / Spiral Architect - My dog did not like this. Or there was a deliveryman. Either way lots of barking.
I appreciate the weirdness but maybe you cooked too hard for me this time
- Into the Void / Wishing Well - No that's too many wishes! You're supposed to get like one or two, not fill out a whole wishlist. But this self deprecating song grew on me. And the dude definitely sounds like he needs the help
- Into the Void / Sweet Leaf - Thought this was bout simping for camgirls or even SFW streamers until I confirmed the album year. Maybe they should require people to listen to this song instead of doing website age checks. Maynard will un-horny anybody.
- The Singularity / Man vs Machine - I wouldn't ever have thought of VH for this category but that is very synthy!
- The Singularity / Embiggened Language Model - A point for the the weird Owl City/screaming metal vocals combination
- The Singularity / John Henry - More appreciation for Whitney as I age...
- The Singularity / This is Fine - This song and comment has real "I Have No Mouth And I Must Scream' vibes
- The Singularity / This is Fine - I didn't know this was going to be on the playlist when I submitted Never Let You Go, but I'm glad it was
- Music Through the Decades / The 2000s: Guilty Pleasure or Secret Genius? - Another Timbaland track. I looked that up, because it feels like something Destiny's Child would have written without any adult supervision. Guess he didn't find his signature sound until working with JT?
- Music Through the Decades / The 2020s: Soundtrack to the End (or Beginning) - Execs thought this song, not Bruno, would be the big hit. After a couple years of music league, I can say that foreign languages never do well, though. Anyway, actually a pretty neat song.
- New beginnings / Rediscovered - oh, elfman... um, different from his usual stuff? Yorick not hiding his identity as usual makes me nostalgic
- New beginnings / This isn't me - Not sure I'd classify this as country but it's a great tune, maybe my favorite on the list and a great fit for the round. And I'm a big fan of fallout 1/2/nv... Though I honestly usually turn the music off because it is quite an odd combination for an apocalyptic wasteland (I know that's the point but still...). If I had one more point I'd add it here.

| Michael Sugar | 99 | 88 | -6 | 82 | 0.83 | - Sacramen-toeJam / Haven't seen you in a while - There it is! <3 I know it's a classic, but I think this song recently got way more popular on the internet after it was featured in a video game trailer...
- Sacramen-toeJam / Haven't seen you in a while - Like Summer of '69, I feel like this one's more about leaving home than coming home. Though unlike Bryan Adams, Springsteen is currently confronting his hometown baggage rather than just remembering it. So the Boss gets the final point!
- Sacramen-toeJam / Back in time - off topic? I feel like I'm missing something.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Back in time - Not enough points to spread around & not high on my list of Green Day favorites
- Sacramen-toeJam / Horn-y - Didn't make much of an impression on me, which is not something people usually say about Fleetwood Mac songs.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Horn-y - Opinions on whether people have sex to this song?
- Sacramen-toeJam / Next! - Honestly I didn't think this was a song people actually listened to as a song. It doesn't deserve a downvote, but I had to put it somewhere.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Next! - Point for being a creative new pick, and also for understanding that sometimes the true win condition is to create problems for your spouse while showing that you understand them better than they understand themselves.
- Sacramen-toeJam / You're So Vain - I don't think he's being very arrogant, he's just being Kenough. I guess it's about learning not to be arrogant?
Anyway, great movie, good song. I'm glad Gosling has a spotify hit other than that City of Stars song which I can't stand for some reason.
- Sacramen-toeJam / You're So Vain - No points for the song that explicitly inspired the category, but I've never actually listened to it before today so no downvotes either.
Also I'm pretty sure this song was written about me
- Sacramen-toeJam / I Want It All - Gotta give 2 points, you're on my wavelength.
Criticize the people who create jobs? Dolly must be a Marxist who hates freedom!
- Sacramen-toeJam / I Want It All - I don't think this will get many votes, but I'm giving it one because
A) John Williams??!
B) now I understand why I've only heard people sing one line of the song - because the next line is Yubba dibby dibby dibby dibby dibby dibby dum
C) commitment to the farm animal squawking
- Sacramen-toeJam / Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay - (9/10 laziness) Things to do in Lodi:
* Singing and playing while people sat there drunk
* Nothing else
Taught me the original definition of "one night stand" +1
Lodi -1
Complaining about Lodi +1
- Sacramen-toeJam / Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay - (8/10 laziness) Things that DO happen because I got high:
* Being a paraplegic
* Jacking off
* Singing this whole thing wrong
- Sacramen-toeJam / I Want to Love You - He's definitely down to pound in this song, but I don't have enough points to reward this fun but kinda repetitive song
- Sacramen-toeJam / I Want to Love You - I wanted to see this song at some point in Music League. One point for the song, one point for the memories
- "Sacramen-toJam - Disk 2, hidden tracks - Halloween" / Tricks and Treats - "Thrilled" that this one got picked
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / I have a dream! - I didn't see this Huge Jacked Man movie. I'm guessing Ziv Zaifman is him as a little boy? This was my "got better and better each time I heard it" song this round.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / I have a dream! - I wish I had thought of this "broken dreams" genre, it's a pretty good interpretation of the theme that opens up a lot of songs. Probably about half of The Boss's songs are like this, ha!
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / It takes two - This is the song I genuinely most enjoyed this round. Ok, it's not a serious song, but I thought the movie treated the camp of Eurovision seriously.
Also, the hamster wheel thing is a great match for the Hamster edition of music league.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / It takes two - I really dislike how Rema feels the need to fill all the beats. I think this would be a MUCH better song with 100% less oh-oh-oh-oh-oh-oh. It's a shame they cover up an interesting beat with repetitive filler noise. Selena does a good job of delivering each phrase differently and making it interesting though.
A nice change of pace from the rest of the playlist
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / Hungry for more - Never seen the show, but this sounds very much like theme songs from The Sims games...
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / Hungry for more - It's my turn to downvote a country song that I can't stand! Personally, I need to hear her in a very narrow and specific genre of songs, otherwise it's just distracting/annoying how clean her voice is...
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / Happy Birthday! - Pretty good! This has excellent comedic potential if played with inappropriate timing, like somebody's ringtone in a hostage situation
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / Happy Birthday! - If all his songs are like this, we might have to ban Jimmy Buffett from music league as being too good, practically cheating.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / Back to Basics: School of Rock 101 - My favorite of the stones songs so far. Definitely a great rock groove, but it was a strong crop of songs this time.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / Back to Basics: School of Rock 101 - This one kind of hurts to not give points to, considering how many times I've headbanged to this in the past... But I'm also not that kid any more. I think as cool as the riff is, they probably didn't really put that much craft into it, compared to say, Zep's jimmy page did.
Actually the thing that most struck me about listening to this song afresh was how important Dave Grohl on drums is to their sound.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / I Love You, Man? - Not to rubber anyone the wrong way, but this song doesn't fit the bill. I do have fondness for Sesame Street and this song, but I don't think this is the right direction for the league. (not sure why I liked the cookie song, maybe because I like cookies and also submitted a cookie song)
50/50 on whether this is a serious play for points or a commentary that our musical taste isn't all it's quacked up to be.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / I Love You, Man? - Saving my points for the more rare/new songs this round. Similar to Africa, I gotta give points to the creative picks.
Surprisingly political song. Reading about the Neil Young "feud" was interesting. I think the songs interpretation is purposefully ambiguous ("In Birmingham they love the governor, now we all did what we could do.") so both the good ol' boys and the liberals could claim the song. Apparently the Confederate flag they flew at concerts was also the label's business decision.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / But Wait—There’s Myrrh - Gotta vote for this one having just spent a week on Oahu. But also I like Bing's singing better than Dean's and Burl's, and the bendy guitar notes add a lot of Island character to the song.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / But Wait—There’s Myrrh - That lonely old man is really just a creepy old man!
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / Guilty Pleasures - Mike
Guilty: 3/5
Pleasure: 7/10
Extra: +
I feel like the person who chose this song is probably referencing the fact that if you play the Dixie Chicks in public in some places ("try that in a small town"), you might get chased out.
Great tune -amazing to finally hear this song which was part of their fall from the top, and I always thought it a shame they got cancelled for an objectively correct, compassionate, reasonable opinion. But that's people for ya.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / Guilty Pleasures - Mike
Guilty 4/5
Pleasure 6/10
Bonus +
On reflection, I'm giving this one an extra point. The closer you get to pure punk - and this is the closest we've gotten so far - the harder it is to play it publicly (or submit to music league!), due to both musical quality and punk anti establishment sentiment.
The Dropkick Murphys cleverly solved the "punk singers sound awful" problem by secretly having the melody carried by bagpipes.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / We're going HARD! - Another old favorite, but perhaps more 'fast' than 'hard' for me, personally. Otherwise I'd totally give this points.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / We're going HARD! - I like it, just find the other songs more musically interesting. I wonder if Brian Johnson's speaking register is naturally this high, I find it distracting when male vocalists do this.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Say what now? - I kind of agree that Bob Marley's One Love is a pretty ambiguous concept - I'm pretty sure it can refer to familial, social and sexual love at different times. But some of the other songs were new to me, so I voted for those instead.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Say what now? - Literal, but not point-worthy
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Let's go to the movies! - I wanted to dislike this but it's actually pretty good. Drags on a little bit towards the end.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Cover me! - Mike
This *waves hand indicating everything* made more sense in the 90s.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Cover me! - Mike
Great song and cover, but points are limited so I'm giving my points to songs that are more unexpected
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Sacré Bleu! A day in the life of Michel(Gilmore Girls) - Basic but passes the test. Maybe a bit too mainstream for a quirky B&B?
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Sacré Bleu! A day in the life of Michel(Gilmore Girls) - I gave this a point, but honestly this song would drive you insane on repeat in a customer-facing role. It's very repetitive and you'll wish you could escape, but you can't...
But I do like the song in limited doses and found myself singing it a lot when taking the dog for a walk...
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Beach Mismatch. Are your choices Kenenough! (Barbie) - I think in some ways the music and lyrics actually match. They're happy about how everything worked out. The mismatch is that you don't think a murder song should be happy, but I think in this case it is happy?
Still liked it.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Beach Mismatch. Are your choices Kenenough! (Barbie) - I think this is the one that has the most interesting contrast (between low energy and high energy), as well as being really catchy.
I thought about one song in the opposite direction (sedate lyrics and manic music), Enjoy the Silence by Depeche Mode.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Country Cover (Beyonce) - I spent a lot of this week thinking that the nitty gritty band must have had a singer who sounded exactly like Cash, and was happy to find out that it's actually him singing as a guest. It was a bit confusing before that.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Country Cover (Beyonce) - Obligatory upvote, but not among my favorite of his songs (even if it's probably the most iconic)
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Bachelor Nanny TV (Soldier of illusion, Documentary Now) - Mike?
I've actually never seen many episodes of this show... I like TMBG but didn't feel this
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Bachelor Nanny TV (Soldier of illusion, Documentary Now) - Elaine, pandering to Mike. Despite this song being from 2003 it's a very 90s sound. It's a fun song, a deep cut, but I don't think the Entourage show aged well... But I think this track really stands out from the rest in both music and tv show criteria. Also, being from a show about bachelors - someone probably put some thought into this one
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Words don't matter - Everyone's a Captain Kirk. The one exception to my rule this round about songs most of us have heard before...
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Party picks - Love Dua, and this song makes sense for the prompt, but I somehow don't like this as much as her other songs
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Childhood nostalgia - Curse you, Mick! The feud continues until he or I drops dead.
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Childhood nostalgia - Antiestablishmentarianism!
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / No vocals needed - A surprise classic. More unexpected than Debussy.
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / No vocals needed - Great track for inspiration. Ran out of points.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Play Submission (Setting) - Great setting and blurb! Also used to listen to this song back in the 00s, I don't think there will be a ton of hipsters here upvoting this though. I debated whether to put the second point here or in West End Girls and I thought that probably somebody was specifically targeting me with this song, so I might as well put it here. I do think it's a bit better of a song, too, so..
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Throbbing Attraction (Character) - This is horrible and amazing every time I hear it. We definitely need Jack to side with striking unions vs the Tories.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Bedroom Experiment (The Scientist's Tale) - This surprisingly holds up well 25 years later. I think it's harder to rap when you're doing a character voice, so I give Mike Meyers a pass on musical talent.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Bondage and Duty (the Queen's Tale) - I think we've gone into the fantasy genre, Madonna being on time and Margaret Thatcher not sending all those soldiers to Argentina...
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Bad Habit (the Nun's Tale) - Deep cut, eh?
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Drama, Actually... and Tease (Epilogue and Cliffhanger) - Props for sticking with the 80s UK theme...
- 2024, we hardly knew you / Best of 2024 - My favorite on this playlist, maybe because I've heard the others too many times
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite original song from an animated movie - This got my nostalgia vote over Fievel because dinosaurs are sadder than mice. The song is better too IMO
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song from a non-animated movie musical - You know who I wish would go on strike? The TikTok algorithm that replaced the Newsies
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song used in a romantic moment in a movie - this would be a Netflix movie if it came out today. Wish I had one more point!
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite background score to a dramatic moment - Beautiful piece and great movie
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song sung by a character in a non animated movie - Possibly the stupidest movie I've seen in recent years. Solid.
- Change of Pace / Good Riddance but also I Need You Back - wut
- Change of Pace / Not Horny Enough - Canadians don't get horny, it's too cold
- Change of Pace / Better-than-Okay Boomer - Did I miss a reboot of White Chicks with Shaboozey in the Wayans' roles or something?
- Hey DJ! / Guilty Pleasures - "In the justice system, the people are represented by two separate yet equally important groups: the sexy cops, who investigate crime; and bankruptcy attorney perverts, who submit weird songs to music league."
- Hey DJ! / Tongue Twists - I will pray to the hill elves of the countryside for more points to vote with.
- Hey DJ! / $@#?! - mindfuck is a pretty great word
- Hey DJ! / Cover Me Badly - Rupert Everett!
- Beginnings / Debut - Alex Warren is like they took a Hallmark movie and distilled it into a man. I hate it and also kinda love it.
- Beginnings / Beginnings - this was my favorite 'new' song last year
- Beginnings / Summer Starts - excellent
- Beginnings / Original - Ah, the 2000 memories
- Beginnings / If At First You Don't Succeed - maybe, but i played the shit out of 'Dammit'
- Into the Void / Fairies Wear Boots - I listened to the Elton John version so maybe I'm biased in favor of this
- Into the Void / Spiral Architect - An old favorite. The thing I appreciated about this and Prince on this playlist was that they build up to catharsis. After piling up the negative emotions, it's nice to have a Nickelback moment
- Into the Void / Wishing Well - Never saw the movie
- Into the Void / Sweet Leaf - Me too except I'm still indulging myself
- The Singularity / Embiggened Language Model - A long long time ago I had to sit through drunk businessmen singing this whole long ass song at a karaoke bar. Not a great time.
- The Singularity / Embiggened Language Model - Indeed this is a difficult concept to parse. Also, are we human or are we dancers?
- The Singularity / John Henry - Lol. But it does fit the theme of breaking your own limits...
- The Singularity / John Henry - As a beginner distance runner, I feel this...
- The Singularity / Irreplaceable - I see your pandering and go along with it anyway
- Music Through the Decades / The 2000s: Guilty Pleasure or Secret Genius? - Mike will be singing this song on his deathbed
- Music Through the Decades / The Lost Decade - my inner basic bitch loves bon jovi karaoke
|
| Yorick | 95 | 81 | -6 | 75 | 0.79 | - Sacramen-toeJam / Haven't seen you in a while - This is more like a song about being away from home than a home-coming song. Couldn't decide whether to give my last point to this song or Thunder Road, but in the end I gave it to Springsteen.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Haven't seen you in a while - Hello Netherlands! I am not a fan of house music so the beat was a bit too much for me.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Back in time - It feels like a song you'd pick on Guitar Hero to annoy your friends. I read War and Peace in the time it took for this song to finish. If these guys played Metal Gear Solid, The End would die of old age waiting for Deep Purple to stop screwing around with falsettos and the xylophone settings on their synth. Still a pretty cool song. +1 for speaking your truth.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Back in time - Had a hard time choosing where to put my last point. Slash gets it over Arcade Fire, REM and Carpenters!
- Sacramen-toeJam / Horn-y - Sadly this was an easy downvote for me. I assume he's being tongue in cheek (see: 'fuck advances in medical technology') and he has some clever lines, but fuck South-Park-style, false equivalency, 'both sides'-nihilism.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Horn-y - This song is fun on Just Dance (switch). Those are probably electronic samples, not a real instrument people are blowing into. But eh, close enough because in a lot of ways this round was weird to allocate votes for, so Blackpink gets my first ever +3 vote. Partly because I'm pretty sure whoever submitted it (*coughcough*) really loves the song.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Next! - It's very very rare that a song comes up and I immediately give it full points. I actually didn't recognize the name of the song, so I was surprised when Spotify played the first note and it was THAT song! THAT song! Wow.
Also, the album "2001" came out in 1999. Huh.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Next! - People are really pushing the limits of the theme this round, eh? Well, it's got that early Taylor Swift sound that I like, it's an artist I wouldn't hear anywhere else, and I don't feel like being strict with the rules today.
- Sacramen-toeJam / You're So Vain - I'm calling Jason on this one. Something about Highlander and Queen just stays with the inner 11-year old boy. My one complaint is, is it really narcissism if your song is actually about an immortal prince of the universe?
- Sacramen-toeJam / You're So Vain - Never played Beat Saber, but I'm looking forward to it after hearing this song.
This and You're Welcome were my favorite of the "I have a huge ego, and I'm great" songs.
- Sacramen-toeJam / I Want It All - Still a great pop song. I like it more than the other 1 point songs, but not as much as the 2 point songs.
- Sacramen-toeJam / I Want It All - This song sounds super weird because it's got happy chords which are sad in relation to each other (Mixolydian mode, another example is Coldplay's Clocks which uses similar chords to achieve the happy-sad effect). I don't know whether Linkin Park are the kind of people who do this on purpose or on accident (more likely this). But it stands out, so +1 for a very very weird sound.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay - (10/10 laziness) Things that happen instead of getting a job:
* Sit on ass
* Doing nothing at all
But I never really liked this song, so no points
- Sacramen-toeJam / Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay - (10/10 lazy) Things that lazy bones can't do:
* be tired
* be bored
* go crazy
* be pure
* sleep tonight
* ...many more
I think Billy Joel is a lot more autotuned than he used to be, but these guys still sound really good. This was probably the best head-bop of the songs new to me on this playlist.
- Sacramen-toeJam / I Want to Love You - Will always love this song, but not feeling it for this category.
- Sacramen-toeJam / I Want to Love You - I gave serious thought to submitting this one, so this gets an automatic 2 for being on my wavelength. I like Henry Lee (ft PJ Harvey) slightly better but yeah, great pick.
- "Sacramen-toJam - Disk 2, hidden tracks - Halloween" / Tricks and Treats - Neat! Seems like an interesting band that does cool stuff. Long song though 😅
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / I have a dream! - I always associate this song with how it got sampled by Eminem.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / I have a dream! - Orchestral songs are a risky pick for Music League. I once went through an embarrassing Neil Gaiman phase, so I respect the Sandman choice. +1 for risk taking, +1 for being extra on-point with the theme.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / It takes two - Pandering? Maybe, but still a good pick.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / It takes two - It's about love, but not really a love song, and weak on the duet part also. And the YouTube clip was kind of pointless in typical Zack Snyder fashion.
Interesting that it's a cover - the original singer has a cool eye patch.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / Hungry for more - The recipient of this round's "Gets Better On Repeat!" award. I wish there were more modern funk songs like this.
Harry is good, I guess, but if it was just him on this track I think he's a bit boring and I'd have a hard time giving this song points. What really elevates this for me is the songwriting and studio musicians: the horn & strings section, drums, and especially that bassline. After a meh opening verse, the groove kicks in and blows me away to Funktown...
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / Hungry for more - This song is the opposite of Watermelon Sugar in that Joe Jonas' singing elevates an otherwise ordinary backing track.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / Happy Birthday! - I enjoyed this one, maybe not as much as the classic It's My Party...
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / Happy Birthday! - People are saying this is the most on theme music league choice in the history of music league choices -ever-, believe me
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / Back to Basics: School of Rock 101 - Impressive but sort of lacks feeling for me.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / Back to Basics: School of Rock 101 - I know this is a classic riff but I think it's better for learning guitar than rocking out. If scoring it based on the solo, I'll choose to spend my limited points on other songs here (though the second half of the solo gets better).
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / I Love You, Man? - This is such a stupid song, but credit is due for finding a good song/category match for Tenacious D. I've been considering them for a few rounds but never pulled the trigger. This would be where I put my 9th point if I had one, but Twin Shadow and California Soul came out on top this round. I'm sure this song will do fine and we'll get to hear more of these guys...
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / I Love You, Man? - Fun and I hope we get more, but points are limited here and somebody posted a song by a Cat about loving dogs. Can't compete with that.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / But Wait—There’s Myrrh - The movie version is cute, I don't know why they played up the creepy rapist Frankenstein monster vibes for the soundtrack version.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / But Wait—There’s Myrrh - Worthy of a point but had to give 2 to Danny Elfman.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / Guilty Pleasures - Elaine
Guilty 4/5
Pleasure 2/10
Musical theater is its own thing, consciously sticking to sounds from the 40s-50s that I personally find musically cheesy, so yeah, good thinking. but I just don't like the song that much and never saw the musical. Book wasnt bad.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / Guilty Pleasures - Yorick
Guilty 3/5
Pleasure 2/10
"Bluetooth audio signal is weak", the song
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / We're going HARD! - Quite honestly, the bass here hits a lot harder than the bass in MF BASS. Nice deep cut, and the theme is on point, and Mike Shinodas flow is always satisfying. I bet a lot of people rattled a lot of windows and floorboards with this beat.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / We're going HARD! - The good: this song made me turn up my subwoofer to try to get the full experience, which was a good decision for this and all the songs this round.
The bad: kind of underwhelmed by the fakeout drops that don't resolve tension, and the monotone basslines/beat.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Say what now? - I dunno, I guess it makes enough sense from the way the song feels and from how we know Kurt felt about this song? But I'm giving it 1 point because I snubbed it last time and I do like it.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Say what now? - Glad to have something different, but doesn't score high on the lyrics a dimension for me, and I don't like the song as much as some of the others.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Let's go to the movies! - Are you not 😂ed?
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Let's go to the movies! - Huey Lewis would also have gotten my point.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Cover me! - Yorick
I thought this might be a fakeout by someone other than Yorick, because I was also considering this song to throw people off my track in the guessing game. Still, definitely a fun listen and better than the original, and a way different genre.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Cover me! - Jason
A pretty good cover, though I just recently heard an annoying Phoebe Bridges song in my other league, so I have negative emotions attached to her now...
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Sacré Bleu! A day in the life of Michel(Gilmore Girls) - Not front desk music, but leave Bretagne alone
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Sacré Bleu! A day in the life of Michel(Gilmore Girls) - This is kind of an unhappy song... Definitely not front desk music.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Beach Mismatch. Are your choices Kenenough! (Barbie) - Even though I thought I knew this song pretty well it turns out I didn't really know the meaning. So, points for that. On the other hand I think it would be better writing if the meaning was more context-independent rather than having to look up the artist explicitly talking about what he really meant.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Beach Mismatch. Are your choices Kenenough! (Barbie) - +2 because I also submitted this one previously. It's a powerful contrast between the lyrics and the vibe.
-1 because I already submitted this one previously
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Country Cover (Beyonce) - Nice one!
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Country Cover (Beyonce) - Gave the vote to neil young instead. Both are probably Jason anyway.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Bachelor Nanny TV (Soldier of illusion, Documentary Now) - Yorick.
Not strictly on topic but sampled so often that it probably ought to be considered an"actual" song.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Bachelor Nanny TV (Soldier of illusion, Documentary Now) - Yorick? An Ed Sheeran reference?
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Words don't matter - I kinda don't get banghra, and apparently this song is kind of memey?
Also, I just praised the Knight Rider theme song last round, but I didn't mean "please submit more Knight Rider ripoffs". I mean, it is kind of funny, but...
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Party picks - Bored somehow.
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Party picks - No effect on my vote, but 2 things never made sense: looking like Mick Jagger should be a negative? Not exactly a good looking guy even when he was young, can you not make Keith Richards rhyme with anything?... Also name dropping P. Diddy was always weird
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Childhood nostalgia - If the rest of the songs on the playlist weren't also very good, this might get 3 points from me: it's new to me, surprisingly good, and different from everybody else's pick. Yorick said this got review bombed? Hmm. I get it, but I like this. (I would have given it 2 points even if he hadnt said that)
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Childhood nostalgia - This round, my tiebreaker for songs that are good but didn't immediately get my vote: "would my parents like this?" And they wouldn't like this. Random, but that's the level that we have to go to because otherwise these songs are pretty hard to deny points.
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / No vocals needed - I liked Caspian just a bit better.
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / No vocals needed - I still think "Greatest Generation" was a marketing campaign designed to get old people to write Boomers into their wills, but this track also grew on me. Took me a couple of times to realize that it's kind of a slow build-up/storytelling song, which is pretty neat. Screw it, thinking about it now, I'll give it another point.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Play Submission (Setting) - Enjoyed this. definitely super dramatic for such a short song. Also, I liked that it answered the prompt a little cheekily but in full. Summer retreat sounds like fun... Hawaii? Malibu?
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Throbbing Attraction (Character) - I liked both this song and the Amason song. It's great to hear new songs I probably wouldn't hear otherwise.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Bedroom Experiment (The Scientist's Tale) - The trilogy still holds up.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Bondage and Duty (the Queen's Tale) - JASON DERULO I didn't know about this scene/meme and JASON DERULO I had a blast catching up on the OC and SNL skit, and Imogen Heap's weird music DJ computer gloves. So this gets two points in spite of how there's too much autotuning to be subtle and too little autotuning to be stylish. JASON DERULO!
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Bad Habit (the Nun's Tale) - I would also have accepted the Steve Vai vs Ralph Macchio guitar battle from Crossroads.
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite original song from an animated movie - Right now I'm teaching my dog to circle and roll over to the FF7 victory tune. +1 for following your heart while staying on-prompt.
- Movie Music Magic / Thriller - a song from a movie that gives you the chills - i've heard relationships based on intense experiences, such as an intense music league comment exchange, never work
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song used in a romantic moment in a movie - I just got Yorick-rolled
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite background score to a dramatic moment - A point because I also sat through the pointless sequel. Wrap up your three or four speeches, Maximus Jr., I just want to go home and feed my dog.
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song sung by a character in a non animated movie - my favorite cinematic Devil/Guitar battle is Ralph Macchio vs Steve Vai
- Change of Pace / Good Riddance but also I Need You Back - MichaelScott_no.gif
- Change of Pace / Old Enough! はじめてのおつかい - I prefer his "Never Had A Friend Like Me" as Aladdin's Genie.
But seriously, I think this and Scherzinger were clear standouts this time for original picks while coloring within the lines... it's just that Angels is really not my thing.
- Change of Pace / Not Horny Enough - Maybe I should have left downvotes on...
- Change of Pace / Better-than-Okay Boomer - At this rate when I'm on my deathbed somebody will be telling me that Muse still put on the best shows of the 2090s... I'll still be a stay-at-home-in-sweaters-and-headphones guy though
- Hey DJ! / Guilty Pleasures - I feel like there's a point where a horny song overloads on the horny and wraps around to the point where it feels like you're just watching a nature documentary about beavers humping on top of a gushing waterfall. Cardi B's house is probably a flood disaster area, with Wet Ass Socks, Wet Ass Coffee Table Books and Wet Ass Chandeliers, everything marinating in her juices. Before you go to sleep you open a drain in the floor so the pussy juice can spiral down, but inflow is still higher than ou
- Hey DJ! / $@#?! - she has an album where she's posing with 3 corgis on the cover. That must have been a difficult shoot (It's like trying to get three hyperactive toddlers to pose together). She's holding two of them with her hands instead of doing a more elegant or artistic pose. They're all trying to run away to look for a sheep to nip at or some floor stains to sniff. She's probably thinking 'oh my god these stupid dogs are so stubborn why did nobody tell me it would be like this'. I also feel like a lot of the corgis I see in media aren't as cute as mine. Is that just cognitive bias? No, I'm pretty sure it's true.
- Into the Void / Fairies Wear Boots - some people's Robert Miles phase lasts their whole life
- Into the Void / Spiral Architect - Not a l'arc en ciel fan other than their big hits, but Hyde gets a lifetime achievement point from me
- Into the Void / Neon Knights - Oh dear. Thanks?
- Into the Void / Wishing Well - I liked but a bit of a stretch
- Into the Void / Sweet Leaf - Friendly reminder: don't carry across borders
- The Singularity / Man vs Machine - Definitely the most extreme song here on the man-machine spectrum (I wondered whether someone would choose a Gregorian or something, on the other end)
- The Singularity / Embiggened Language Model - Oo nana
- The Singularity / John Henry - Iconic is the right word. Luc Besson still a scumbag though.
After getting older and getting a little bit more familiar about singing, this sounds way more impossible than it did when I first heard it, ha
- The Singularity / John Henry - I enjoyed this more than most of the guitar-heavy stuff we've had in recent leagues. They've got a pretty melody going on too.
- The Singularity / Irreplaceable - A similar music style (trap beat?) to This is America, so I'll upvote
- The Singularity / Irreplaceable - We had this song in one league, so it lost some of its impact, but not everybody was in that league and it's a good pick.
I also think that ultimately the content and not the form is the thing that will distinguish manmade and fully AI-made art.
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Out of the ordinary - They're making fun of it, but it does mostly work. The most successful pop songs often follow a formula but also need to have something else going for it. Sometimes it's luck, sometimes it's connections or attitude, sometimes it's a woman wearing a dress made out of meat
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Excellently Explicit - I still don't like nihilism or south park-style moral equivalence humor. It's not true that everybody sucks equally. You must pick a side instead of just shrugging your shoulders - even though picking a side is pretty draining, and it's difficult to sift through each position's BS (so for a lot of people it won't be worth the effort).
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Excellently Explicit - I agree, you picked a great round to use this song
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Kids songs - Would have liked to give this a point since it was new to me and kind of a fun vintage 80's MJ feeling (I'd only heard the other hit on the album), but a bit of an odd fit considering the mature subject and his controversial history
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Short and Sweet (or not) - I couldn't appreciate this one as much as it deserves because the police sirens were not a great sound effect while I was driving

| Happy Lucky | 70 | 62 | -4 | 58 | 0.83 | - Sacramen-toeJam / Haven't seen you in a while - I'm a sucker for a well-produced pop song. SHAUN is new to me - hope to keep hearing new music from all you guys!
- Sacramen-toeJam / Haven't seen you in a while - This was a pretty cute song. Probably the one that most of us can relate to, ha! It ended up being my favorite after multiple listens... I don't think of Train as a huge band but they've got a way higher count on Spotify than I thought.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Back in time - Ugh, I'm kind of annoyed how good you are at this game. Lol. Best of the round, but can't give full points because there's not enough points to give, and the Carpenters are so extra saccharine. (I submitted Cranberries, but that was the least twee version of their song...)
- Sacramen-toeJam / Back in time - "Paul spent some time not quite believing that he had in fact written (Yesterday). He would play it to everyone he met, asking if they recognized it, thinking maybe it was some obscure old standard. Of course, nobody did. 'Eventually it became like handing something in to the police. I thought that if no one claimed it after a few weeks then I would have it.' "
- Sacramen-toeJam / Horn-y - Definitely the horn-iest song here, but it's no Careless Whisper. Opinions on whether people have sex to this song?
- Sacramen-toeJam / Horn-y - This has always been one of those songs that should be good, but I just don't like much. I suspect her Spanish language songs are better.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Next! - One point for Arrested Development. It's an illusion! I checked the lyrics on an "interpret the lyrics" site, and the only interpretations were about how Venus is not light years away, and how you would actually stand taller on Venus due to lesser gravity. That was fun.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Next! - You guys are forcing me to spread my points around a lot this round. Lots of good songs, not enough points.
- Sacramen-toeJam / You're So Vain - I can smell what The Rock's cooking, and it's Kahlua pork with a side of upvotes.
This was what I wanted to pick! I thought about replacing it with Gaston (Beauty and the Beast), but this is just too good to compete with. It's a very LMMiranda song.
- Sacramen-toeJam / You're So Vain - I'm conflicted, because this is a great song with an interesting message that I personally interpret as humble and empathetic. But interpretations are subjective, so giving it the benefit of the doubt.
- Sacramen-toeJam / I Want It All - Funny that this came right after Material Girl in the playlist, and the first line is a reference to it. I think in this first album they weren't sure about how to brand her. The song itself didn't do much for me tho
- Sacramen-toeJam / I Want It All - I'm glad I heard this. Eddies vocals are way clearer than in Pearl Jam, and his lyrics are slightly more comprehensible!
If you take away Eddies singing, this is just your average guitar bro song, but he really elevated it. Nice find!
- Sacramen-toeJam / Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay - (8/10 laziness) Things girl does with her records on:
* Tells favorite song
* Lets hair down
* Sips tea
This was my 2nd favorite of the songs that played on repeat in the store when I was working retail (#1 was Nelly Furtado - Say It Right).
- Sacramen-toeJam / Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay - Margaritaville is a state of mind, not a place, right? Deep. I liked this song more and more after listening on repeat - from a 1-pointer to a 3-pointer!
(6/10 laziness) Things to do in Margaritaville
* Nibble spongecake
* Strum six-string
* Search for salt shaker
* Get Mexican cutie tattoo
* Waste away
* Blow out flip-flop
* ...more
- Sacramen-toeJam / I Want to Love You - Famously mismatched tone between music and lyrics!
Unfortunately I ran out of points to give.
- Sacramen-toeJam / I Want to Love You - I wasn't sure where to put my -1, but Beliebers are used to being downvoted, so I have no problems putting my downvote here. I don't really get what his selling point is compared to, say, Shawn Mendes, now that Bieber's old. I bet he still is a good performer live and on video, but I didn't watch the video for this.
Did Off My Face catch on as slang, I wonder?
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / I have a dream! - This game ruined this song for me 🤣 I will try harder to avoid this situation in the future.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / I have a dream! - Classic but I've heard it too much...
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / It takes two - Hello, is it three you're looking for? I only have one point because I had to spread them around too much, sorry. But I was real close to giving 2.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / It takes two - Next to Lionel Richie, this is probably the other song that most captures what people think when prompted with "love duet". I bet the music video is mostly closeup shots of them singing into the same microphone from opposite sides. I'm not even going to check that.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / Hungry for more - In the desert
I saw a creature, naked, bestial,
Who, squatting upon the ground,
Held his heart in his hands,
And ate of it.
I said, “Is it good, friend?”
“It is bitter—bitter,” he answered;
“But I like it
“Because it is bitter,
“And because it is my heart.”
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / Hungry for more - I'm biased against this song because I'm not including drinking/alcohol in the theme definition (although there's also a health food mention)... Other than that, nice song! Also interesting to see Rupert Holmes' face get fatter and thinner as he releases new albums. He should do more yoga and health food, obviously.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / Happy Birthday! - My favorite part of the playlist is where this plays after Jimmy Buffett. Easy listening!
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / Happy Birthday! - This one didn't leave much of an impression on me. Earned a point because now we can all say that we've heard of two songs by Don McLean, which I'm fairly sure would never have happened without this game.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / Back to Basics: School of Rock 101 - I think that the solo is probably too short, but otherwise it ticks all the boxes. This song is at the top of the list of casualties of the points restriction.
I thought the bass-playing was noteworthy to highlight how good these guys are.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / Back to Basics: School of Rock 101 - Little bit biased with the scoring but I do think this song earned it. As Yorick pointed out in group chat, these guys also have a compelling story behind the music.
Good selection among a lot of excellent songs in their catalog, and there's even a neat little drum solo halfway through the song..
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / I Love You, Man? - This is one of my go-to hype songs for karaoke but not a very good fit this round. I think loving the way a person does something is too close to love for a person. (Side note, I think the title lyric is actually not very central to the rest of the song, this is really a "hate to love you" song.)
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / I Love You, Man? - I think I already submitted this song, except it was about having a bad birthday. I kind of wish she had more range of song types, but I've got a soft spot for this song and want to see it do well.
And of course, this is right on point for the round.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / But Wait—There’s Myrrh - This is kind of cheating since I don't consider this as super soundtrack-connected. I didn't really remember this being part of a movie which had an overkill of memorable musical moments, while this is one of the defining songs on Pet Sounds.
On the other hand, coming from one of the (critical consensus) best albums of all time means it's possible this will get no points at all...
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / But Wait—There’s Myrrh - Of the crooner songs here, probably the best movie connection and source material. As a song, may be a bit dated: can we get someone like Lil' Jon to resuscitate this somehow?
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / Guilty Pleasures - Yorick
Guilty 4/5
Pleasure 5/10
Made-up FLEMMING facts:
Favorite commodity for financial speculation: tulips
Favorite renewable energy source: windmills surrounded by tulips
As a child, he won a pair of silver skates in a race along the frozen Zuider Zee.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / Guilty Pleasures - Emma
Guilty 3/5
Pleasure 8/10
Bonus +
Moldova boybands are a whole different breed. Give me numa numa instead of I Want It That Way any day. I think this is Emma because she and Yorick are the most likely to have spent a lot of time on Newgrounds in the 2000s...
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / We're going HARD! - I took away a point from a song I really wanted to give 2 points to, because I felt this really deserved something. I don't think I'd ever listen to it outside this playlist, but it's pretty fun.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / We're going HARD! - skip
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Say what now? - Tough to pick a downvote this round, but I think this song is generally pretty easy to interpret, zig a zig ha.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Say what now? - A strong pick, I'm pretty sure I know what they're trying to say, but never quite sure...
I guess I'm just too dancer to get it.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Let's go to the movies! - I was considering doing a cover of this song for the next round, because to me any version of this song that sounds different would be better than the original
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Cover me! - Helen
Not really THAT different from the original if you think about it, but it's new to me, so it gets a point.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Cover me! - Emma
A good choice for fulfilling your guessing game penalty! I would've gone with the mission impossible theme last round, but I listened to this one a lot back in the day.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Sacré Bleu! A day in the life of Michel(Gilmore Girls) - Maybe Michel would like this song, but I assume the bed and breakfast is not a nightclub...
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Sacré Bleu! A day in the life of Michel(Gilmore Girls) - Pretty sure French people hate Emily in Paris.
Side note, everybody goes through a "not like the other girls" phase around their late twenties, but you should avoid dating the ones that are a little *too* insistent on it. They tend to also be the kind of people who unironically think "if you can't handle me at my worst, you don't deserve me at my best." Their best is still pretty shit! EiP radiates that energy...
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Beach Mismatch. Are your choices Kenenough! (Barbie) - I dunno about the song itself but the background behind it is pretty interesting and cool. Had to take away points to give elsewhere because that is way too much autotune and 90's bass dropping for me
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Beach Mismatch. Are your choices Kenenough! (Barbie) - 🔥🌈🏹💔
Fun! You can tell a lot of people put a lot of work into producing this song. Might be my favorite of the "new to me" songs this round.
I like the chill vibe. This might actually do well in a Connecticut B&B lobby...
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Country Cover (Beyonce) - I think this vote depends on how much weight you give to the Beyonce part of the prompt. As much as I like Jewel, this has got anti-Beyonce energy. And I don't consider this country, and yet it's still not different enough from country to be an interesting cover.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Country Cover (Beyonce) - Not bad, kind of a Halo energy...
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Bachelor Nanny TV (Soldier of illusion, Documentary Now) - Elaine
Not really feeling this one, but a bonus point for being bachelor nanny appropriate.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Bachelor Nanny TV (Soldier of illusion, Documentary Now) - Emma
We must all have considered this one, right? The full version kind of drags on, the tv opening is basically the best parts of this song...
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Words don't matter - I like Lyn from the P5 soundtrack but this is too kdrama for me. I wonder if she's pronouncing Korean phonetically rather than actually knowing Korean.
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Words don't matter - She's got pipes! I love these kinds of artists who put 100% into a song, especially when they put a little growl into their voice.
I guess this is a TikTok/Instagram-promoted performer? Wishing the best of luck, but it'll be tough - talented artists like this who never get the success they deserve are a dime a dozen.
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Party picks - Yo listen up here's a story
About a little guy who played in a music league
And all day and all night
Everything he hears is just a cover
Like him inside and outside
Actually this might be better than the original, but a bit too simple?
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Childhood nostalgia - A legendary performer! My parents are super americanized so I never heard any of these songs until I learned Chinese in my 30s. Also gets extra points because I don't think many other people are gonna feel this one...😂
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / No vocals needed - A relaxing original piece.
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / No vocals needed - This one definitely grew on me, it's kind of neat. It needs lots of variations because otherwise it gets super repetitive. The highlight is probably when he shifts to a minor key briefly around 3:50.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Play Submission (Setting) - My least liked song here by a wide margin, and I wouldn't mind a story in this setting if this was this round's loser...
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Throbbing Attraction (Character) - I overplayed this song but it's still so good. Nice backstory in the comment too.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Grasping and Heaving (Story Goals) - Cool song from the Zoomer demographic, but I liked other songs/descriptions more.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Bedroom Experiment (The Scientist's Tale) - Solidarity for covers of pop-rock songs. I think this was my favorite listen this round, and it's a good story pick and description - not just plot, but also feeling...
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Bondage and Duty (the Queen's Tale) - It is a banger, but this song is really heavily 90s
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Bad Habit (the Nun's Tale) - A favorite madonna song, but I'm giving my points to the many new/lesser-known songs here.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Drama, Actually... and Tease (Epilogue and Cliffhanger) - Sure, I like jokey songs. Also voting in solidarity of someone else who likes "rocks fall, everybody dies" endings.
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Out of the ordinary - I wasn't around in the 70s but I feel like it was almost a given that every arena band would have a couple of slow songs for the ladies.
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Excellently Explicit - I always like giving points to these little artists
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Excellently Explicit - Not bad but I can't get over the fact that 'goddamn' is enough to earn an E rating.
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Kids songs - Nice one. Emma? I think the categories 'kids songs' and 'songs I liked as a kid' should be separate categories though.
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Kids songs - Laufey is another mixed feelings pick for me. Honestly I find the mod-century Americana thing pretty gimmicky but I admire how she's found an alternate princess stereotype separate from Taylor's version
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Short and Sweet (or not) - Haven't watched the show, but I like the album thumbnail!
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Short and Sweet (or not) - I saw the track artists before I looked at the voting - made me wonder which poor soul had been playing gacha games 😅
- New beginnings / Rediscovered - Boys' choir is 100% not my cup of tea, ha, but I dig that we are getting different styles and fun ideas.

| Emily Neubauer Sugar | 70 | 44 | -1 | 43 | 0.61 | - Sacramen-toeJam / You're So Vain - I like the thinking here - found a song that fits the theme like a glove!
I don't like the song itself though. I'm happy if I never hear this song again except in movie montages
- Sacramen-toeJam / You're So Vain - I've literally never heard of this apparently mega-successful artist before, but I like it. Can't give more points because it's not very on-theme.
I like this song is the inverse of Dua Lipa's (IDGAF and Don't Start Now).
- Sacramen-toeJam / I Want It All - I couldn't really get into this one.
- Sacramen-toeJam / I Want It All - I've just now theorized that a big part of the appeal of Stones songs is their attitude & personality whereas Beatles songs are often more interesting on other dimensions - they have to be, because Paul is boring as hell (and I approve). I'm probably weird for this, but I don't like Mick and his singing at all & most Stones songs.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay - (7/10 laziness) The Last Barman Poet recommends:
* Fall in love to steel drum band
* Put out to sea and perfect chemistry
* Tropical contact high
Beach boys couldn't beat CCR, Eagles and Warren Buffett this round. Side note, this song is from the movie Cocktail, which was Tom Cruise's first movie after joining Scientology.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay - (7/10) Things to do under the boardwalk:
* Have some fun
* Fall in love
* Almost taste hot dogs
We're sitting on the dock of the bay because the area under the boardwalk is sticky. Wish I had another point to give here. Apparently Ben E. King was a Drifter at one point, so it makes sense that this song has a similar style to Stand By Me (lead bass, string instruments). Side note - someone wrote a whole damn book for the Drifters' spotify bio.
- Sacramen-toeJam / I Want to Love You - Not feeling it one way or another.
- Sacramen-toeJam / I Want to Love You - + callback to my sk8er boi submission
+ FANTASTIC karaoke song
- A true Swiftie would stream Taylor's Version BUT
+ Baby Taylor has more character, country twang and less pop than current Taylor
- for the theme and her early catalog, I think there are better songs (ex. many songs off Speak Now or the title track from Fearless would get a 3 from me) but I get why one would pick the big hit
- "Sacramen-toJam - Disk 2, hidden tracks - Halloween" / Tricks and Treats - This one really benefited from watching on YouTube! Point for keeping it weird. Then again, apparently everyone here is weird.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / I have a dream! - Strangely, I think I like the Marilyn Manson cover better... but the original is more worthy of points, so it's good that you submitted this version.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / I have a dream! - This game ruined this song for me 🤣 I actually do like the version I submitted a little bit more than the others, but at this point I need a looong break from anything related to this song.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / It takes two - No one would have ever asked the Fonz whether she put up a fight. The 70s was a different era I guess.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / It takes two - A classic that I will always associate with the movie Groundhog Day. It's so weird how Sonny and Cher have similar voices...
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / Hungry for more - A classic and I would've been disappointed if this wasn't on the playlist, but honestly this one suffers because the original is SO good. For example, I'd rather listen to "Grapefruit Diet" than "Zoot Suit Riot"... but in contrast, "Eat It" makes me appreciate the MJ and Quincy Jones' original more.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / Hungry for more - Wish I had more points to give this song, but I think it will do well enough without my help :)
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / Happy Birthday! - I thought there would be a lot more sad birthday songs. I'm impressed that you guys found so many about happy birthdays...
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / Happy Birthday! - Is any birthday complete without 50c telling everybody to ...hug him?
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / Back to Basics: School of Rock 101 - I decided to give one vote to Slash and it goes to November Rain. The music video especially does a great job building tension, though Axl's piano part is forgettable and too long. Listening without the insane music video was kinda boring, tbh, but Slash does his thing wonderfully - showmanship, catchy melody, the feel of axe shredding.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / Back to Basics: School of Rock 101 - * One point for a good try at getting ziggy into the Stardust game. Some good memories of the Nirvana Unplugged version of this and Kurt ending the cover by explaining it was a cover. I don't think I'd give this any points without that nostalgia.
* "Gazely stare"
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / I Love You, Man? - Almost downvoted this. I think the song is ok, but I don't love it the way other people seem to. I'd also prefer a more specific, currently existing object/concept that is currently loved, not just "I loved my youth or memories"
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / I Love You, Man? - One of the classic meme songs! Saving my votes for more unique songs. While this certainly is appropriate, it's also not new to me and I'm not emotionally attached to this song.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / But Wait—There’s Myrrh - Accompaniment part is neat, and the tap dancing is super cool, but overall a pretty difficult listen.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / But Wait—There’s Myrrh - Based on my memories, I thought I would like this more than I do. Fun but not something I would put on a playlist, mostly because of Sandler's limitations as a performer
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / Guilty Pleasures - Emily
Guilty 2/5
Pleasure 8/10
Bonus +
I don't think Taylor or Ed, in general, belong here considering their cultural impact and multigenerational fanbase. But Blank Space specifically, as a "grrl anthem", works for the category.
I still think Love Story (the Romeo and Juliet song that ends with a wedding proposal) is the guiltiest of her songs.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / Guilty Pleasures - Emma
Guilty 1/5
Pleasure 7/10
I always liked this song, maybe because I came from an overly frugal family. I think it falls the guilty test in general though, you'll probably get a lot of wry smiles and head bops
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / We're going HARD! - I don't really emotionally connect to AC/DC, dunno. That's probably just me.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / We're going HARD! - I could be persuaded to vote for a different Metallica song, but this one is an uphill battle especially since Sandman is a resubmit.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Say what now? - Like Give It Away, there's some ambiguity - is it a bar or a maternity ward? - but because almost all the songs were fine on the "makes no sense" dimension, I felt like giving points to the songs I liked more or wasn't familiar with
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Say what now? - After reading about the story behind this song, more inclined to file this under "nonsense" than "has a meaning but I don't get it". Also, Lennon was kind of a dick. Also, not my favorite walrus song.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Let's go to the movies! - I would normally vote in solidarity with you, but you ought to have tried to find the actual version of the song and artist in order to avoid a duplicate entry. Lessons learned...
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Let's go to the movies! - A saxophone busker was playing this on the Embarcadero one day as I was jogging past. I raised my arms in victory and ran a circle around him. It felt amazing and I still remember it over a decade later.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Cover me! - Elaine
Despite this probably being the closest to the original genre, and (IMO) not that much better than the original, I give this a point because "better than the original" is a pretty high baseline in this case.
An exception to my "gimme unexpected songs" scoring criteria. I guess I just like it.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Cover me! - Yorick
I was thinking about submitting one of their songs for the Xmas Soundtrack round but I couldn't find a good Stacy's Mom pun.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Sacré Bleu! A day in the life of Michel(Gilmore Girls) - Great song, a lot of lyrical affirmation but musically not a mood lifter
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Sacré Bleu! A day in the life of Michel(Gilmore Girls) - Almost gave it 3 points. I didn't care for the song at all when it came out, but it probably is one of the best songs of the 00s. Also it fits the theme of wanting Lorelei to go away.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Beach Mismatch. Are your choices Kenenough! (Barbie) - I actually considered submitting the pearl jam version of this. What I want to know is whether this is basically like the earliest Emo/Goth Rock, if they're trying to be edgy, or if this was actually pretty mainstream.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Beach Mismatch. Are your choices Kenenough! (Barbie) - I dunno if he's really that bothered about being stuck in Margaritaville. Actually I still quite liked this song but there's a lot of competition this round...
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Country Cover (Beyonce) - Always liked this song and I could see it working in a different genre.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Country Cover (Beyonce) - See the other comment. I think for what you're both going for, Cheryl Crow would have been more country and also more Beyonce.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Bachelor Nanny TV (Soldier of illusion, Documentary Now) - Helen?
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Bachelor Nanny TV (Soldier of illusion, Documentary Now) - Jason, I think he submitted this to annoy Elaine by reminding her of Tom Hanks' existence. I think this is the first Billy Joel we've gotten! And it fits the bachelor nanny feel, so it gets a bonus point.
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Words don't matter - Not as good as the other songs that I gave points to, but this one definitely got stuck in my head while walking the dog the most
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Words don't matter - Not enough points this round to give any to songs that everybody has heard before.
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Party picks - Not sure why but this one always seemed to groove harder than the other similar songs from this style and era.
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Childhood nostalgia - Always reminds me of Forrest Gump
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / No vocals needed - Another bold choice, love the jazz (though not really a fan of big-band myself), and I actually got this song in my youtube feed (marching bands! random!) even before this playlist came out. So, it's a sign that this needs a point.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Play Submission (Setting) - I don't think any other song here can beat this one. The only way is if people rally around other songs' story setting and bump them with extra points like I did with We Used To Be Friends.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Throbbing Attraction (Character) - I'm gonna get so much hate for this, but I prefer the Dua Lipa remake. But an A+ for the comment.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Grasping and Heaving (Story Goals) - Everybody likes Katy.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Bedroom Experiment (The Scientist's Tale) - Have to give this song a point. Still, I dunno why but this feels kinda random, haha.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Bondage and Duty (the Queen's Tale) - Tori's really good, but probably just too depressing for me nowadays... and I say this as a Cure fan.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Drama, Actually... and Tease (Epilogue and Cliffhanger) - Lol
- 2024, we hardly knew you / Smaller is Better - I remember!
- 2024, we hardly knew you / Welcome 2025 - A point for ignoring the U2 song actually called "New Years Day" (which I like way way more than this song but doesn't have the right vibe for this round)
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite movie title song/theme song - Another hot take: I haven't heard many good Adele songs since 21 (the songs themselves, not her vocal performance). It's like someone excised all the interesting bits from the songwriting. Skyfall was a memorable Bond movie and theme though.
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song from a non-animated movie musical - Les Mis and Wicked both had actors singing the songs live on set, and both are in some sense about social consciousness. Even though Wicked succeeded where Les Mis failed (it sometimes sounds muddy) I gave the point to Les Mis because it vibes with me more. This actually inspired me to relisten to the whole soundtrack and start rereading the book. I mean, that probably deserves more than a single measly point... you can have a cookie, too 🍪.
- Change of Pace / Good Riddance but also I Need You Back - I didn't know it was a breakup song but still not my kind of Green Day song
- Change of Pace / Old Enough! はじめてのおつかい - An unorthodox choice of song to represent MJ's ascent. I love it - maybe if we ever do a "Best Key Change" round?
- Change of Pace / Better-than-Okay Boomer - I personally feel like Madonna's an anti-example this round - she was kinda struggling for relevance at this point IMO. I mean, I didn't like Cher's Believe, but that song was everywhere nonstop around the same time. I did know at least one person who really liked Ray of Light, though...
- Change of Pace / Stop, Wait a Minute - I heard Liv Tyler's dad was in this band, but I don't see Elrond or Bruce Willis anywhere... might be my favorite stop moment on this playlist.
- Hey DJ! / Guilty Pleasures - I think this is probably too popular/classic to really fit in this category. And aren't we past the age of hating on boybands? But eh, still one of the best listens on the playlist.
- Hey DJ! / $@#?! - A relatable reaction to LA/LA people, and an artist I haven't heard of before. In 2006 you still needed to keep a road atlas in your car so I really feel this 'I wanna go without a map in Los Angeles' vibe...
- Hey DJ! / Cover Me Badly - True but that's a high bar and this one's got its own vibe.
- Into the Void / N.I.B. - I like this but gave the point to a weirder pick
- Into the Void / Spiral Architect - fun fact: the difference between pigeons and doves is mostly dependent on language and culture. In Asia, they are basically the same bird. I've eaten pigeon meat -- so believe me when I say that When Doves Fry, it tastes like chicken.
- Into the Void / Wishing Well - The thing that struck me about relistening to this song as an adult is that this relationship was so doomed, more than any other on this list. Like what, are you gonna get married? Name your kids Tiffany and Egg McMuffin? Get a grip, bro. Have some fun with people who actually like you
- Into the Void / Sweet Leaf - Still a banger, Astronaut Katy Perry

| Taylor Kayatta | 55 | 44 | -4 | 40 | 0.73 | - SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Words don't matter - I like risktaking picks, and this was one of the riskiest picks..
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Words don't matter - I don't think I ever listened to the first BoA album before. Nostalgic, but too many other good songs this round.
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Party picks - 2000s was peak "just make the music as fast as possible and even people with no rhythm will be able to 'dance'"
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Childhood nostalgia - When singing karaoke, choosing this is a quick/cheaty way to get easy approval... Music League is the same, I bet.
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / No vocals needed - My downvote was always going to be one of the 3 EDM songs, and this one is not danceable and honestly not that interesting other than the fact that deadmau5 apparently loves turning up the attack and decay settings on his keyboard.
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / No vocals needed - The main melody is actually pretty upvote-worthy. My main nitpick is that there are at least two times where he's setting up a big Skrillex-style dubstep drop and it never comes. He just fades out and cuts to the bleepy bloopy stuff. I have a pretty good subwoofer setup and the drop that did come was a little underwhelming. That's kind of a big drawback for a song like this.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Play Submission (Setting) - deserves points solely on the basis of being the most DRAMA song here, and I did always kind of like this song (though not among my favorite R&B songs)
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Throbbing Attraction (Character) - I fell asleep during Moulin Rouge. I think the Baz thing I've most enjoyed was Everybody's Free to Wear Sunscreen (Commencement Song).
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Grasping and Heaving (Story Goals) - Keep the unusual songs coming! I'd love it if all european dance music was a bit more like this with meaningful lyrics, interesting bassline and Robyn-worthy melodies.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Bedroom Experiment (The Scientist's Tale) - Bubble oh-noes
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Bondage and Duty (the Queen's Tale) - I think this is maybe the most on-character song this round for a killer high-society lady.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Bad Habit (the Nun's Tale) - Thoughtful pick for the prompt. Even if I'm not a fan of the style, I like how this song lets us see a rare glimpse of the real human behind her persona
- 2024, we hardly knew you / Who was that again? - My impulse to upvote this song is greater than my impulse to quibble over The Wallflowers' OHW status.
- 2024, we hardly knew you / Where was that again? - Geeky little kid me is happy. Flood is a great album.
- 2024, we hardly knew you / Smaller is Better - I like the meta-game of music league, and I respect the flair of someone who selected an artist with 1 listener/mo
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite original song from an animated movie - Interesting attempts at Disney alternatives in the 90s ..
- Movie Music Magic / Thriller - a song from a movie that gives you the chills - Neat crescendo, but barely qualifies as a song IMO
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song from a non-animated movie musical - It doesn't count, but agree. Voting inconsistently with no regard to the round prompt is also part of music league!
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song sung by a character in a non animated movie - Downvote me Obi-Wan, _your song_ is my only 'nope'
- Change of Pace / Old Enough! はじめてのおつかい - I was skeptical but I can see your angle here. You get my one line-stepping vote out of all the people who are habitual line-steppers
- Change of Pace / Not Horny Enough - Wow, haven't heard this song in forever. Nice lyrical fit too.
- Change of Pace / Better-than-Okay Boomer - I gave this one all my Gaga upvotes because 1) I like that someone listened to the whole album (who does that nowadays?) and picked a lesser-known song and 2) everything about this song is a pastiche of Taylor Swift/Max Martin songs (Red, 1989) and I can't decide if it's a homage or what, but I really dig it.
- Change of Pace / Stop, Wait a Minute - !
- Hey DJ! / Guilty Pleasures - Nice pick! Better song than "show me the meaning of being horny".
- Beginnings / Debut - I feel like they hadn't quite found their groove yet but I like your thinking.
- Beginnings / Beginnings - natalie portman! at the emo
- Beginnings / Summer Starts - chef's salad
- Beginnings / Original - I like anxiety a lot (I didn't go places where it got overplayed) but somebody I used to know was always too whiny for me. Is that weird that I don't like the original? Maybe, but they have way different vibes imo and doechii has a more interesting melody & rhythm to me.
- Beginnings / If At First You Don't Succeed - I like Just A Girl a little more as their breakout song. Also did not at all care for their debut 😅 or their late-stage albums 😅 or Gwen's solo career 😂 so I'm biased
- Into the Void / N.I.B. - Guilty pleasure album for sure.
- Into the Void / Spiral Architect - My favorite of the deep cuts
- Into the Void / Wishing Well - I like how this song doesn't repeat much. I feel like it just keeps changing. Much love for Encanto.
- Into the Void / Sweet Leaf - There's a scene in Community where Britta says "Pizza pizza! Go in tummy me so hungee me so hungee". She looks a little bit like Gwen too.
- The Singularity / Man vs Machine - At one point this was my favorite song ever. I also had the mp3 from where Dave planned originally to play a song called For All the Cows but Howard Stern forced him to play Everlong on acoustic for the first time...
- The Singularity / John Henry - Feeling more in the mood for optimistic sounds
- The Singularity / John Henry - This is a fun one. I remember thinking it would probably take a month or two of dedicated practice just to copy that one section... Coming up with it though, I can't begin to imagine it.
- Music Through the Decades / Time Traveler's Choice - I respect the future-predicting pick, it's so much harder than going the other way, but the downside of sounding like Ray of Light or Believe is that I find listening to any of these songs to be a quite unpleasant soulless experience
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Out of the ordinary - I always thought this was an Elvis song or some kind of cover, so yeah, excellent pick
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Out of the ordinary - My problem with this Beyonce album is it feels like she's just doing it as a gimmick. Why choose Jolene to cover? That's too basic, if you really wanted to pay homage you shouldn't do the one song everybody already knows.
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Excellently Explicit - I guess this song passed me by in 2004... Eamon also makes me think of Lord of the Rings character names...
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Excellently Explicit - is... this a NIN diss track? I just ... what?!? Um, I guess I'm on Trent Reznor's side and I'm not even a big fan of him.
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Kids songs - This is a repeat for our league but I guess I just like it better than the classic children's movie songs
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Short and Sweet (or not) - Sometimes it's not about a songs chords or the quality of their voice. Sometimes a song just fuckin slaps. Good pick among green days songs.
- New beginnings / This isn't me - I have played with a lot of you before so that y'all know that I actually do like some country, but generally not the kind in this playlist. This was fun though.

| Brandon Nohara | 35 | 36 | -1 | 35 | 1 | - Change of Pace / Good Riddance but also I Need You Back - I was never on board with all the bands from this time who were trying to bring 70s music back. Can we revive the 1870s instead?
- Change of Pace / Old Enough! はじめてのおつかい - huh. today must be Blue Monday because I don't know how do I feel
- Change of Pace / Stop, Wait a Minute - I listened to this album a lot back in the day! A very memorable tempo change.
Franz Ferdinand and Eminem were the secret *other* inspiration for the last round about career longevity, after they popped up in the Best of 2024 round...though I think they're both pretty irrelevant nowadays. FF did a great cover of Good Luck, Babe! though.
- Hey DJ! / Guilty Pleasures - I think Bieber is a good choice for this round, but I'm not feeling this song much.
- Hey DJ! / Tongue Twists - Where were you during the former girl band (/boyband/Disney Channel) round in the last league?!? We get Camila now, so I forgive you.
- Hey DJ! / $@#?! - this is 'fuck' done right. Don't need to be all 'fuckity fuck, fuckin fuck you, fucker'.
I think Alanis might've qualified for the 'Child Stars/Boyband' round, but it doesn't seem like she was on kids' TV shows for very long.
- Hey DJ! / Cover Me Badly - +1 I don't think it's a bad cover in any way, but I had fun and discovered something new.
I judge covers on two factors: musicality/execution and spirit/intention. This version is stupid and weird, but their intent and execution are on point. They messed up by not making little changes which might have let the singer hit those important high notes at "I don't wanna be friends x3", but otherwise it's a quick & dirty, whistling, Russian-polka-surfpunk jam that deserves some love IMO.
- Beginnings / Debut - I don't think a one-hit-wonder is the right pick for this round, but the part where he goes WASH YOUR HAIR ONCE EVERY TWO WEEKS has stuck with me for a long time, and I don't think we'll ever see this song again so it might be my only chance to upvote it
- Beginnings / Original - I was hoping for Stevie Wonder/Gangstas Paradise but this is equally memorable
- Beginnings / If At First You Don't Succeed - Sometimes the art you really want to make is terrible and everyone hates it, and your best option is to forget your art and sell out commercially. After this they came out with an EP called 14:59 (as in, their 15 minutes are almost over), and I loved it.
- Into the Void / Fairies Wear Boots - This is the musical version of that guy whose whole identity is just X recreational drug
- Into the Void / Neon Knights - Even I have to give points to a big well known song when it hits the prompt's bullseye
- Into the Void / Wishing Well - Another song that grew on me
- Into the Void / Sweet Leaf - So weird that MGMT wrote the whole album as a kind of ironic hipster college student joke and ended up huge. I'm jealous that my being a hipster doesn't do anything good for me.
- The Singularity / Man vs Machine - Probably my favorite song this time, including my own songs (that doesn't happen too often!)
- The Singularity / This is Fine - I think this probably is actually the closest to what vat life would be like
- The Singularity / Irreplaceable - Hmm, I don't know about live music and covers, I think I've heard AI making Sinatra sing Biggie or whatever absurd combination you can think of, but it was a good listen.
- The Singularity / Irreplaceable - I wonder if there's a remix of the original music video with this version
- Music Through the Decades / The 2000s: Guilty Pleasure or Secret Genius? - Gotta upvote this because when we did the sampled songs round, this was my favorite sample. Agreed that it has aged much better than most songs
- Music Through the Decades / Time Traveler's Choice - I feel Austin Powers helped set the stage for this
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Storytime! - Someone is baiting me with these picks, I think. It's like they know I can't _not_ give a bunch of points to these two songs...
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Out of the ordinary - Lady Gaga spent years wearing meat dresses and Alien costumes, so that she could eventually have the capital to make whatever music she wanted and people would still care about it
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Excellently Explicit - I'm not sure if this song was supposed to be an early version of the Leo-pointing-at-tv meme?
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Excellently Explicit - I said stop baiting me! 😂 Eddie's pronunciation is even more confusing now that I can read the actual lyrics
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Kids songs - This was a surprise to me because I generally don't like POTUSA's music, but the things that irk me about them are strengths for this genre
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Kids songs - I like Curious George but dislike Jack Johnson, so this was a tough one for me.
- Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Short and Sweet (or not) - I think I like the Zimmer parts a lot better than the Walker parts, but still a highlight of the
- New beginnings / This isn't me - i was michael jackson eating popcorn giffing at all the recent Wuthering Heights movie criticism YouTube videos.
|
| Christopher Long | 26 | 27 | -1 | 26 | 1 | - 2024, we hardly knew you / The holidays are here. - A little too bluesy/somber maybe? but still way better than the Backstreet Boys song I briefly considered choosing
- 2024, we hardly knew you / Smaller is Better - I'm down with the funk and hope we get some more
- Movie Music Magic / Thriller - a song from a movie that gives you the chills - i have no context for this song but feels like there might be an unusual thought process behind this selection
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song from a non-animated movie musical - Good find! Works well as a musical scene-setter, too.
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song used in a romantic moment in a movie - Is this a romantic scene? Neat movie and song, anyway
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite background score to a dramatic moment - nice throwback, remember watching this with my dad.
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song sung by a character in a non animated movie - The original has long been a favorite of mine. The actors' version of it isn't as good, but it'd be petty to dock points for that. I don't remember the movie very well.
- Change of Pace / Good Riddance but also I Need You Back - A classic, which contains my favorite passive-aggressive lyric: I'm not out to go out and cheat all night / Just like you did, baby, but that's alright.
First of all, it's hilariously out of place with the rest of the song and secondly, just now I've realized that little chip on the shoulder, that he saves up to use as future ammunition, is how we know that the song is coming from real experiences and was not just a cash grab.
- Change of Pace / Better-than-Okay Boomer - I have a soft spot for this song even tho I'm not sure it holds up. But there's no Rob Thomas on this track, so that's a plus.
- Change of Pace / Stop, Wait a Minute - As someone not interested in either band, I had always assumed that Boston was basically Chicago except that they would mention where they went to school a lot more
- Hey DJ! / Tongue Twists - Most unexpected pick
- Hey DJ! / The Big Ask - My favorite this round, and it's paired with a great story.
- Hey DJ! / Cover Me Badly - you win the terrible musicality prize. I can't even get through a minute of this talentless slop, and that's coming from someone who listened to Shatner all the way through five times. I did skim through this song to make sure I didn't miss any redeeming features but I'm happy to report that there are none. I'm impressed you found such a bad song.
- Beginnings / Debut - So 90s. In retrospect, not surprising they never reached their peak again
- Beginnings / Beginnings - I have a soft spot for this band and I wish more people would vote for & choose more songs I haven't heard before, so here you go
- Beginnings / Original - Such a short simple loop, and so good
Comparing 90s R&B crossover hits, between Blackstreet and Ginuwine, I like No Diggity better for listening, but Pony is the better party/karaoke song.
- Beginnings / If At First You Don't Succeed - Liked it, but couldn't vote for this because piano man came out earlier. interesting to read about the lyrics and consider how it's become culturally inappropriate to pressure young women into relationships they don't want, unless you're Benson Boone, I guess, and exploit religion. Girl, you wouldn't want to make God sad, would you?
- Into the Void / Fairies Wear Boots - I don't know Californication super well, but still I must have deleted this from my memory
- Into the Void / Wishing Well - Thoughtful pick and a legendary artist
- Into the Void / Sweet Leaf - Just don't smoke on the sidewalk where I'm jogging for my health and we're all cool
- Music Through the Decades / The 2010s: Internet Aesthetics - I love this song
- Music Through the Decades / The 2020s: Soundtrack to the End (or Beginning) - Sure, I like it when people go with niche artists.
- Music Through the Decades / Time Traveler's Choice - Interesting find but not really my jam. I'm sure it's lots of other people's though.
- Music Through the Decades / The Lost Decade - Also not into hair bands, unfortunately...

| Anthony Ng | 30 | 27 | -2 | 25 | 0.83 | - 2024, we hardly knew you / Best of 2024 - A purely arbitrary point in solidarity for the other person who chose an artist re-releasing their biggest hit, decades later, slightly tweaked (the Episode 7 formula)
- 2024, we hardly knew you / Who was that again? - Beat It is my go-to karaoke party starter, but among people of a certain demographic, Flagpole Sitta (and Semi-Charmed Life) is a surefire way to get people in the mood to queue up their own songs.
- 2024, we hardly knew you / Smaller is Better - Great song, nice reminder of that time everybody wanted to be the Strokes
- 2024, we hardly knew you / Welcome 2025 - my favorite song of those that are literally about the new year
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite movie title song/theme song - Luke is a badass space wizard, but his defining character trait is that he embodies hope (for Anakin, for himself and the whole galaxy). So I feel this dramatic noble opera theme suits the original trilogy sneakily well.
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite original song from an animated movie - I love LMM songs (that's why I chose one!). I was going to go with Shiny, but not sure how much this crowd would like a Crab God doing a Bowie impersonation...
- Movie Music Magic / Thriller - a song from a movie that gives you the chills - you can always count on me for a nerd vote, and to give a point for a good comment... I think Endgame might be one of those movies that actually gets more appreciated with age.
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song from a non-animated movie musical - As a Baz Luhrmann hater, I think my favorite thing about this movie is that Obi Wan is in it.
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song used in a romantic moment in a movie - Ben Affleck doing an animal cracker documentary is so stupid and works so well. Describes everything about this song and movie, actually...
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite background score to a dramatic moment - In addition to being a Baz hater, I'm also a Matt Damon hater
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song sung by a character in a non animated movie - That fruit juice dripping down Denethor's chin still grosses me out...
- Change of Pace / Good Riddance but also I Need You Back - Such a great song. I was *this* close to submitting the Camilla the Chicken (Muppets) cover last league.
- Change of Pace / Old Enough! はじめてのおつかい - Apologies for the downvote, but this might be my least favorite Timberlake or Timbaland hit.
- Change of Pace / Horn-y - This song should probably be like 7 minutes shorter but I did listen to this soundtrack a lot back in the day
- Change of Pace / Better-than-Okay Boomer - These guys could have been one-hit wonders like so many other pop punk bands, but they just kept getting bigger. I think that's pretty neat.
- Change of Pace / Stop, Wait a Minute - I said I wouldn't give any more automatic Lin-Manuel points. BUT! This is me arbitrarily choosing to give LMM points. Though, the speed is pretty constant throughout, so that all the different singing parts can be played simultaneously in the end.
- Hey DJ! / Guilty Pleasures - At first I was a bit annoyed that someone ignored the system warning and doubled up on picking Gwen, but there's not actually much overlap between the two songs, so I guess it worked out.
- Hey DJ! / Tongue Twists - I saw the band name and was expecting some Stomp Clap Hey, so it was a pleasant surprise. Neat Wikipedia article about how this song got made.
- Hey DJ! / $@#?! - good song but angrily screaming 'fuck you i won't do what you tell me' over and over is not fitting for this round. Not the only song on this list that does it, but I think it's the most egregious...
- Hey DJ! / Cover Me Badly - I am NEVER going to listen to the original, so MCR's is the only version for me. I admit this makes me a bad guy. But I am a bad guy who won't have to listen to Dylan murder a microphone with vague poetry for an unreasonably long period of time. I'm not the only one thinking this, I'm just the only one being honest.
To be clear, I'm not THAT opposed to him or his music in general, but I gave up while reading the lyrics on this one, oof.
- Beginnings / Debut - This album was my wakeup alarm when I lived in LA in the late 00s. I left on my commute before 5 AM so I've probably listened to this song at 4:30AM more than anyone else.
- Beginnings / If At First You Don't Succeed - Great pick, hadn't heard this!
- Into the Void / Neon Knights - I like this pick but I committed to giving Coheed 3 points
- Into the Void / Sweet Leaf - This song sold me when the flow degenerated into 'something sumpin sumpin uh I don't know'.
- Music Through the Decades / The 2020s: Soundtrack to the End (or Beginning) - Can we get the Old English, 1066 version of this?
- Music Through the Decades / Time Traveler's Choice - I never could get into these guys, maybe because of this retroness. Though this song in particular feels to me like 2000s Creed 😅
- New beginnings / Rediscovered - Exactly how you would hope a pop-punk band would evolve their sound for the 2020s...
- New beginnings / This isn't me - Country music has an authenticity problem. the backing band is catchy though

| Helen | 44 | 29 | -5 | 24 | 0.55 | - SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / I have a dream! - New song to me, and it's in a genre that this league generally doesn't submit often. Nice.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / I have a dream! - Sorry, but out of all the classic slow songs to put over a double-time Eurobeat drum track, this has got to be one of the most puzzling I've ever heard. I mean, the actual musicians are good and the violins are really nice. It's just - I never understood under what context you're supposed to listen to this kind of thing. Is it a dance song? A chill ballad? I suspect the producer doesn't know either!
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / It takes two - I haven't seen this movie, but I'm familiar with the plot of the old movies. The simple yet meaningful lyrics are among this round's best (tho I'm still biased in favor of Duet's theme of patience and forgiveness)
Maybe bc I don't know the characters, and because this is a bit of a too-easy pick, it's hard to give this a full score. Also, the (sha-sha-shallow) part is really lazy and it bothers me that they're in the shallows and far from the shallows.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / It takes two - Never saw Grease, but I guess it's like Happy Days? I decided to give one point to Grease, and I like this one slightly better than Summer Nights.
I just watched the YouTube clip and that was a lot of fun.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / Hungry for more - I like this song, but it's less on-topic/deep lyrics compared to the other songs here and there's just too many other good, unique songs this round.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / Hungry for more - Favorite to least favorite:
1. Matt Nathanson
2. Jason Mraz
3. John Mayer
4. ?
...
...
9. ?
10. Jack Johnson
I don't know why, it just is.
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / Happy Birthday! - Somehow sounds better in full compared to the clips that normally get played...
- SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition / Happy Birthday! - This song must have come out around the same time as the Back to the Future trilogy, so this "Earth Angel" remix feels like it should be followed up with a "Johnny B. Goode" cover.
I'd say this kind of remix could only have happened in the 90s, but we are getting a lot of similar pop remixes in the 2020s....
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / Back to Basics: School of Rock 101 - We all know this song and maybe groaned a little at its selection, but listening to it fresh made me realize that this song is really tightly crafted. Like how every writer needs an editor, it helps when musicians get told 'no' every once in a while.
There's not a moment without purpose or direction (looking at you, November Rain).
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / Back to Basics: School of Rock 101 - If November rain wasn't here I would give this a point, but this was kind of a too-safe pick.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / I Love You, Man? - It feels like if I gave this song less than 2 points, it would only be because I'm mad it's not mine.
Did Jason choose this category just so he could use this song? Did someone else have a stroke of genius? Either way I'm glad I didn't choose The Distance as I was originally planning, that wouldnt have held a candle to this.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / I Love You, Man? - Did someone select this knowing that I have an unhealthy attachment to my dog? You, my friend, have an unhealthy attachment to my two points!
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / But Wait—There’s Myrrh - The less I say about this song, the better.
On a positive note, I watched Love Actually recently and had an improved impression of it. Some interesting moments:
Thanks to music league, realizing that Billy Mack is basically Ozzy Osbourne
The writer falls in love with Portuguese maid when she shows him her tramp stamp
Sue the Xmas party DJ for malpractice for that transition between songs. Just playing that Norah Jones song for the dancefloor of an office Xmas party is a fireable offense.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / But Wait—There’s Myrrh - The creepy old man is really just a lonely old man!
I liked the other "modern classic" songs better because Jim Carrey is just too extra.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / Guilty Pleasures - Elaine
Guilty (negative)5/5
Pleasure 12/10
Selecting this is like answering "my one flaw is that I work too hard and care too much" in a job interview. It'll be a shame if this wins the round. Nobody should feel guilty about playing this out loud. Maybe you can feel guilty about making the whole room dance and sing.
I gave this a -1 to offset the other votes that people are going to throw at this basically perfect song.
- SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust / Guilty Pleasures - Helen
Guilty 2/5
Pleasure 9/10
This is another that doesn't really belong in the guilty pleasures category, but I guess foreign language songs are all kind of awkward to justify to outside listeners. I actually haven't heard much Maná outside of the Santana collab, and I really dig this song!
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / We're going HARD! - This was probably the only song in the list that made me go ...what? Not necessarily in a bad way, just.... hmm. I guess they're kinda like Tool in that they've got complicated beats.
Anyway, I'm quite confident in saying that I don't like this song as much as Tool or Avenged Sevenfold, so I don't need to figure out how I feel about it, because I don't have any more points!
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / We're going HARD! - Obviously thinking along the same lines as me, although I do prefer their work in Audioslave. Two votes for the unorthodox riffs of Tom Morello, and for the hard-hitting truths about The Man.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Say what now? - I used to listen to this quirky song, but it's pretty musically bland isn't it?
Misheard lyrics: I thought that the first two kids had it better than the last kid... because "they weren't _black_" (actually 'glad') The song is apparently not about racial discrimination, hmm.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Say what now? - This was pretty stupid fun. I don't even like eurodance. I don't even think scat falls under the prompt, I'm just giving it two points for weirdness.
Great melody though.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Let's go to the movies! - The fact that I'm less than 50% sure what this is supposed to be a reference to (She's All That?) is a strong argument against an otherwise good song.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Cover me! - Helen
Unpopular opinion, but I always preferred the Roberta Flack version.
- SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams / Cover me! - Elaine
The only reason this doesn't get more points is because I think the original is better, even though I didn't know the original existed until now.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Sacré Bleu! A day in the life of Michel(Gilmore Girls) - Missed opportunity for "get lucky" and daft punk. But I guess Happy is more happy...
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Sacré Bleu! A day in the life of Michel(Gilmore Girls) - Maybe I'd like this better after seeing Trolls. Something, something, from Justin to Kelly reference.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Beach Mismatch. Are your choices Kenenough! (Barbie) - I liked this a lot, and I think it's new to me (no offense but a lot of their songs are pretty similar).
I was also thinking about doing Heart of Glass by Blondie, and I think this and Cupid are the closest to that.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Beach Mismatch. Are your choices Kenenough! (Barbie) - Ran out of votes. I think I like Last Kiss and Same Old Song better from the same general genre...
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Country Cover (Beyonce) - We were young when this came out, and now I understand why people back then got sick of this song. Sometimes I can hear some Elvis in there, which I like, but generally this is a skip.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Country Cover (Beyonce) - I liked this better after I found out this was originally an Abba song.
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Bachelor Nanny TV (Soldier of illusion, Documentary Now) - Helen
- SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa / Bachelor Nanny TV (Soldier of illusion, Documentary Now) - Emma
I can't stand this show.
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Words don't matter - It's Blitzkrieg Bop, but because it's French it's about sex and letting the cat drink Whiskey. I liked it better before looking up the translation, so I'm a bit conflicted about giving it 0 pts... But not too conflicted considering the producer, not plastic bertrand, is the actual vocalist.
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Party picks - The best 1970s dance song about feeling trapped by modern life and escaping through dance
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Party picks - Oh go on, why not. Would be a fun dance.
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / Childhood nostalgia - 👍 we are blessed with lots of Elvis lately 👍 the monologue in the middle 😂
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / No vocals needed - Tough choices this round... I guess it's about time we had something celtic- or viking-inspired. This was a lot of fun though, definitely could see it going on more playlists.
- SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition / No vocals needed - I almost downvoted this, but it's actually a pretty ballsy submission. You listen to this for one thing: BONGOS, and nothing else matters.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Throbbing Attraction (Character) - Great song. Points were really difficult to allocate this round.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Grasping and Heaving (Story Goals) - My favorite surprise on this playlist. Chose to give an extra point elsewhere for story reasons, but it was tough.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Bedroom Experiment (The Scientist's Tale) - Maybe you guys are getting the same songs in your algorithm as me. I've been thinking about using this song or more likely the original Supremes, but this round is not the one I would have picked. Oh well, still one of my favorites so it gets a point.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Bondage and Duty (the Queen's Tale) - An interesting pick for a call-to-action song. I didn't realize they were basically a Christian band but it totally makes sense.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Bad Habit (the Nun's Tale) - The comment sold me on this song.
- Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League / Drama, Actually... and Tease (Epilogue and Cliffhanger) - Wasn't feeling this one.

| arhumphrey-us | 22 | 21 | 0 | 21 | 0.95 | |
| JDG | 28 | 21 | -3 | 18 | 0.64 | - 2024, we hardly knew you / Best of 2024 - It's a crime for me to give Eminem a point and not this. But I'm going to fess up to having a stupid opinion: I hate Kendrick's too-high, thin voice. For me, his voice makes this song be like if Nirvana had recorded "Smells Like Teen Spirit" on ukeleles and bongos.
- 2024, we hardly knew you / Who was that again? - I had to pass over several worthy 80s songs but I think this one stands out as a true OHW. I'm going to hum the mmm-mmm-mmm as a lullaby.
- 2024, we hardly knew you / Where was that again? - I try not to give points to the picks that everybody sort of knows will be submitted, but in this case I have fond memories of people getting super happy just hearing their hometown getting a 2-second shoutout.
- 2024, we hardly knew you / Smaller is Better - Slander! We all know that Jason would never poop.
- 2024, we hardly knew you / Welcome 2025 - ehh, for this round? maybe if we're healthcare CEOs
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song from a non-animated movie musical - Can't give this a point because AFAIK it's not from a movie where characters sing, as themselves, to express their thoughts about the drama that is happening to them
- Change of Pace / Good Riddance but also I Need You Back - I appreciate Kelly a lot more now that I don't hate American Idol. But I ran out of points after voting for the riskier songs on the playlist.
- Change of Pace / Old Enough! はじめてのおつかい - On one hand, I HATE the playground melody, but on the other hand the instrumentals sound more like NIN than the song based on a NIN song. A definite "oh ok you're gonna make actual music now?" song
- Change of Pace / Not Horny Enough - Just for the song alone. I don't really get how the title is supposed to work though.
- Hey DJ! / Guilty Pleasures - A good fit for the round but I like I Love It better as a party anthem
- Hey DJ! / Tongue Twists - I waffled on this, but I think what sold me on this is that Megan made a token attempt at learning some of the other language, whereas a few of the other artists explicitly say "I don't speak it"
- Hey DJ! / The Big Ask - Clearly this song is about Bikram yoga
- Hey DJ! / Cover Me Badly - I think this is better than the original I Got You Babe, and UB40's elvis cover. But that's mostly because (unpopular opinion) I dislike those, and I love the Pretenders
- Beginnings / Summer Starts - Smooth. the random 'muthaf----' drop is ridiculous. Also, don't stand on the roof like that! Don't you know you're gonna have to re-shingle that?
- Beginnings / Original - Not familiar with any of the songs you mentioned, but doja cat was a good listen
- Beginnings / If At First You Don't Succeed - Eh, not my genre but I respect that you made a niche personal pick
- Into the Void / N.I.B. - Whoever picked this, stop making me feel like an old person.
- Into the Void / Fairies Wear Boots - Mooo-ve bitch get out my hay!
- Into the Void / Spiral Architect - No stairway. Denied!
- Into the Void / Neon Knights - I thought this was gonna be a parody song about how people who blast their car's subs are stupid assholes, but I guess not. -- a guy who uses a big subwoofer at reasonable volume in the privacy of his own home.
- Into the Void / Sweet Leaf - I bet Jay Z wouldn't complain about a Disney cruise trip costing too much
- Music Through the Decades / The Lost Decade - the main character in the book High Fidelity loves Marvin Gaye. I think that's why I first gave him a listen, to see what he was talking about.
|
| amfish123 | 23 | 19 | -2 | 17 | 0.74 | - Movie Music Magic / Favorite movie title song/theme song - +1 for Dolph Lundgren, MIT Chemical Engineering Fulbright Scholar. Also +1 this is probably the only song I didn't know, which is my #1 favorite thing about music league. my #2 favorite thing is the total silent treatment I get from everyone after they read my unfunny comments.
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite original song from an animated movie - I ruined this song for myself by singing Gaga's Shallow over it and vice versa.
Also waiting for the genderswapped version where the emperor calls for concubines but they've only got a son...
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song from a non-animated movie musical - never knew where this song was from...
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song used in a romantic moment in a movie - Nobody puts Swayze in the coroner's!
- Change of Pace / Good Riddance but also I Need You Back - I bet this is Brandon. Listen, if your soulmate has an issue with you acting like an Anne Rice vampire on the sunny beaches of suburban Honolulu, she isn't your soulmate.
Anyway, great pick. My favorite this round.
- Change of Pace / Old Enough! はじめてのおつかい - I like Rock With You better, but yup
- Change of Pace / Horn-y - would've voted for something off Motorcade of Generosity
- Change of Pace / Not Horny Enough - Love this song. Feeling like a little kid, tho? 🤔
- Change of Pace / Better-than-Okay Boomer - I'm torn on whether this meets the relevance criteria, but it's impressive he can still scream about being a sex machine at that age... which is actually only like 10 years older than most of us now. Hrm.
- Hey DJ! / Tongue Twists - Norteño music might not be an easily acquired taste. actually I haven't had a beer in years...
- Hey DJ! / The Big Ask - I give this the highest success chance for a date that's on the fence. Kind of a guilty pleasure for me, love it.
- Hey DJ! / $@#?! - I feel like there's a lot of individual bits of this song that could be improved, but the overall art would suffer if it wasn't so unfiltered.
Also, this guy showed up on my YT feed this week at the same time as this playlist. So I recognized the name from music league and clicked this music video. Best Smeagol/Gollum movie I've seen since LOTR. I think a lot of people are hoping Ren will hit it big!
- Hey DJ! / Cover Me Badly - I agree, but ran out of points
- Beginnings / If At First You Don't Succeed - I considered something off of Kerplunk! for the debut round. Good times.
- Into the Void / N.I.B. - Tough picking a downvote. I tried but couldn't get into this one.
- Into the Void / Fairies Wear Boots - Nice but there's so many less familiar picks that I'm mostly putting my votes into those instead.
- Into the Void / Spiral Architect - This was a bit of a masochistic experience, as listening to tool tends to be... Maybe I'll relisten to it if I feel like reconfronting 20 year old trauma is a good idea
- Into the Void / Neon Knights - Heard about them a lot but never got around to listening, so I'm glad you picked this. I expected metal vocals but it was a lot more emo than I expected, which actually I like much better.
- Into the Void / Wishing Well - Last time this song came up I gave it 3 but this time it falls into the Breakfast at Tiffany's category of Get a Grip, Bro
- Music Through the Decades / The 2000s: Guilty Pleasure or Secret Genius? - ...how have I never heard this song before? Well, I wasn't listening to music much in the late 00s...
- Music Through the Decades / The 2020s: Soundtrack to the End (or Beginning) - Not sure if this cover is as timely as the Fallout Boy or PREP covers, but eh, I appreciate the song selection
|
| Purple Reign | 23 | 17 | 0 | 17 | 0.74 | - Movie Music Magic / Favorite movie title song/theme song - I waffled on this one because I've only seen the movie once, as a kid, and I have absolutely no memory of it. Cool song though, P-Reign! (I'm assuming) Also, thanks to you, no matter which song I choose in future rounds it won't be the longest song anyone is forced to sit through!
- Movie Music Magic / Thriller - a song from a movie that gives you the chills - keep music league weird, i guess. creepy, let's never play this song ever again
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song sung by a character in a non animated movie - Great song to listen to on a rainy day, metaphorical or otherwise.
- Change of Pace / Old Enough! はじめてのおつかい - I like where your head's at, but not quite right for this round!
- Change of Pace / Better-than-Okay Boomer - I liked this more after reading the witchy lyrics and it got better and better on repeat. Classic Gaga, but I dunno if classic Gaga gets my vote this round.
- Change of Pace / Stop, Wait a Minute - Even though they're in that space of 'your favorite band's favorite band', they're still a tough listen for so many reasons.
- Hey DJ! / Guilty Pleasures - So fetch
- Hey DJ! / Tongue Twists - Very nice, but I only learned one useless phrase
- Hey DJ! / $@#?! - nice meta pick!
- Hey DJ! / Cover Me Badly - Forgettable for sure. People like to hate on her but eh, I'm on Taylor's side most of the time.
- Beginnings / Debut - Truly a borderline song for me but a bold pick, so it gets a point
- Beginnings / Beginnings - that is what adam levine said about your mom
- Beginnings / Original - I bet most people like the original and not the cover
- Beginnings / If At First You Don't Succeed - I must now purify myself in the waters of Lake Minnetonka
- Into the Void / Fairies Wear Boots - Chrono Trigger soundtrack vibes and apparently it's actually about plants, not "plants". I think this will be underappreciated, so giving it 2 points.
- Into the Void / Spiral Architect - If you commit to keep doing this I'll give you a point more every time (1 point next, 2 points the time after, 3 points after that)
- Into the Void / Wishing Well - New to me. Chris is one of my favorite singers to (fail at) imitating in karaoke. Everything he sings -even about a spoon man- sounds like a desperate wish.
- Into the Void / Sweet Leaf - Oh, it's NOT the velvet underground guy? The song's ambiguous/neutral stance toward cocaine is noteworthy
- Music Through the Decades / The 2000s: Guilty Pleasure or Secret Genius? - I know, I know it's serious
- Music Through the Decades / Time Traveler's Choice - it's a cute horny song
|
| faulkheather | 27 | 19 | -3 | 16 | 0.59 | - 2024, we hardly knew you / Welcome 2025 - I suspect you are the only person out of all of us who is suitable to actually make a NYE playlist
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite movie title song/theme song - Pretty much always will upvote Orbison, even though I don't actually like this particular song that much.
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite original song from an animated movie - I like Counting Crows and Shrek 1 but have no memory of this song. Huh.
- Movie Music Magic / Thriller - a song from a movie that gives you the chills - I almost kinda think this song is alright, and sadly that's above average for this round
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song from a non-animated movie musical - Manic Pixie Dream Nun
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song used in a romantic moment in a movie - Everybody knows the real romantic pairing in this movie...
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite background score to a dramatic moment - I've never watched this movie without falling asleep. Is this the wrong league for me?
- Change of Pace / Good Riddance but also I Need You Back - In that uncomfortable "can't decide if you are happy or not happy about breaking up" zone but I'll still vote for a cool song that's new to me
- Change of Pace / Old Enough! はじめてのおつかい - count me among those who didn't really know or think about little stevie. I don't know if I'd count that totally in the same category as boybands and Nickelodeon, but sure
- Change of Pace / Horn-y - Appreciate that you got a horny horn-y song. Still, it's better to learn a little bit of the local language so my downvote goes to Jason Derulo's anglocentrism.
- Change of Pace / Not Horny Enough - Horn-y!
- Change of Pace / Better-than-Okay Boomer - Bruno's gonna have a career forever as long as he keeps writing... ran out of points tho!
- Hey DJ! / Guilty Pleasures - Mr Worldwide is also on my list of guilty pleasures
- Hey DJ! / Tongue Twists - This song is good. I resent the movie for its shitty covers of ok-to-great songs. And notice how the best song on the soundtrack doesn't have Ewan or Nicole in it? That's not a coincidence.
- Hey DJ! / $@#?! - Shel Silverstein
- Hey DJ! / Cover Me Badly - yeah this was a basic-ass choice of song by Beyonce and an interpretation that is too far away from the spirit of the original. Interested to see whether other people will agree.
- Beginnings / Debut - I don't really get Heart
- Beginnings / Beginnings - What a cheesefest, but fun. it would be nice if I could channel this energy more often, too.
- Into the Void / N.I.B. - New to me. Fun little romp
- Into the Void / Spiral Architect - Another song that only I would downvote, but basically I don't get Heart and never have.
- Into the Void / Sweet Leaf - Pass
- Music Through the Decades / The 2000s: Guilty Pleasure or Secret Genius? - No points left. I wish I caught the Broadway show...
- Music Through the Decades / Time Traveler's Choice - Eh, almost, but too clean and way too much beepy boopy to be a true throwback
- Music Through the Decades / The Lost Decade - I liked the instrumental sections near the end
|
| Richelle Ashley | 22 | 18 | -3 | 15 | 0.68 | - Movie Music Magic / Favorite background score to a dramatic moment - I've never heard of this and the thumbnail doesn't look like a Zimmer movie. Actually I would have guessed that it was music from The Sims.
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song sung by a character in a non animated movie - Started off slow but eventually I got into it.
- Change of Pace / Good Riddance but also I Need You Back - Not really into showtunes, but undeniably on-topic in a way that's unique on this playlist. Is there queer subtext? Well, even if it's just a breakup of a platonic friendship, some interesting lyrics.
- Change of Pace / Old Enough! はじめてのおつかい - A thoughtful song and artist selection, while keeping things simple. This song and lyrics will probably stick with me.
- Change of Pace / Horn-y - I kinda liked it but it was very much 'dad music' which set it back.
- Change of Pace / Not Horny Enough - Interesting choice to go with Rod Stewart instead of Alphaville.
- Change of Pace / Better-than-Okay Boomer - Wasn't expecting actual boomer "old man yells at cloud" songs. In their day, The Eagles walked uphill both ways in snow.
- Change of Pace / Stop, Wait a Minute - So good!
- Hey DJ! / Tongue Twists - Ella's great.
- Hey DJ! / Cover Me Badly - I think of this more as an acoustic cover of the classic Sundays' cover. I get why other people wouldn't like it, but I personally like all the versions.
- Beginnings / Debut - Not exactly a call to action, not a great pop song, but self-awareness is step one, I guess.
- Beginnings / If At First You Don't Succeed - I feel like there were probably better songs on this album to pick
- Into the Void / Fairies Wear Boots - not feeling it for this round's vibes
- Into the Void / Wishing Well - Always liked the dark feel even if the connection to the prompt is a little shaky
- Into the Void / Sweet Leaf - Karen is the new Veruca

| lauryl1 | 16 | 13 | -1 | 12 | 0.75 | - 2024, we hardly knew you / Who was that again? - I just have always liked how goofy this song is.
- 2024, we hardly knew you / Smaller is Better - I liked this song a lot, but somehow it's a bit too much of an anachronism (like the cover art). I feel like this song from 2024 is for people who feel like they were born twenty years too late and still send their crushes Dashboard Confessional mixes on cassette tape. The teenage bedroom/emo mood is slightly mismatched with the lyrics about being in your twenties... but I did enjoy it a lot, so that probably tells you something about me, in my 40s.
- 2024, we hardly knew you / Welcome 2025 - Nothing against this song, but I think I'm at peak Mumford & Clones fatigue.
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite movie title song/theme song - I only gave this a point for 'bustin' makes me feel good!'
- Movie Music Magic / Thriller - a song from a movie that gives you the chills - I say this as the guy who submitted 9 minutes of Free Bird, this song was so long! interesting but so long!
- Change of Pace / Not Horny Enough - Chester from Linkin Park would approve
- Change of Pace / Stop, Wait a Minute - Yup, that's this round's title lyric!
- Hey DJ! / Guilty Pleasures - TIL Afroman is a bigot and asshole.
- Hey DJ! / Cover Me Badly - The music is... surprisingly ok if it wasn't Paris. But it is a soulless cash grab and she's very unlikeable!
- Into the Void / Fairies Wear Boots - You get my one "well known song" upvote
- Into the Void / Spiral Architect - They say if you sync Echoes up with the start of the LOTR trilogy extended edition, Aragorn dies of old age with about 5 minutes left in the song
- Into the Void / Neon Knights - One of my favorite albums but maybe a bit on the nose?
- Into the Void / Wishing Well - I was expecting to hate this, and it definitely has some points against it. It's repetitive and over autotuned, and kinda simple. But it does have heart. No one could ever say he wasn't authentic...
- Into the Void / Sweet Leaf - Not interesting to me. Also dopamine (the cocaine hormone) is actually quite different from oxytocin (the love chemical), so I'd bet he's never actually been in love.

| Meredith | 20 | 15 | -4 | 11 | 0.55 | - 2024, we hardly knew you / Smaller is Better - Hey, not all Tories are bad. There's Tori Amos and Suntory Whiskey.
- Hey DJ! / Tongue Twists - I did my share of dancing and singing along to this back in the day but this is basically a one-language song
- Hey DJ! / The Big Ask - Cute. I don't know that I'd listen to this, but I guess it fits whoever submitted it...
- Hey DJ! / $@#?! - I was under a rock when this got popular. I imagine that it blew up on short-form social media because the first few minutes are real slow, but parts of it are killer.
- Beginnings / Beginnings - Did you know that, in the scene in Animal House where toga-clad John Belushi smashes a guitar, the folk singer was played by the musician who wrote the title song of the movie?
- Beginnings / Summer Starts - Unlocked memories of beach tourism television commercials
- Beginnings / Original - Immediately recognizable
- Beginnings / If At First You Don't Succeed - for what it's worth, i'm downvoting only because i feel nash, stills and crosby would object.
- Into the Void / Fairies Wear Boots - Peak weird
- Into the Void / Spiral Architect - I think this would be a better song if "my girls" was being used as slang for boobs
- Into the Void / Neon Knights - Interesting cover.
- Into the Void / Wishing Well - Very hard to pick a downvote this round as I didn't feel any were truly downvote worthy. I am picking this one to continue my classic rock downvote streak. I do wonder if I had grown up with this kind of music playing in my household, would it get more than a meh from me?
- Music Through the Decades / The 2000s: Guilty Pleasure or Secret Genius? - I like the bit of trivia that the band hated having the male rapper vocals on this song but had to compromise with the music executives. I think both were right: the song is better without WAKE ME UP I CANT WAKE UP, but it's also catchier and more successful because of it
- Music Through the Decades / The 2020s: Soundtrack to the End (or Beginning) - Hope this does better than when I submitted it. Golden retrievers!
- Music Through the Decades / Time Traveler's Choice - I liked it, but it was a bit too fusion-y to be from a different decade. Like Springsteen-Silversun Pickups-Tame Impala
- Music Through the Decades / The Lost Decade - Fun and new to me. Although, I guess his style has been copied so much it doesn't exactly feel fresh any more...

| etnlnight | 8 | 8 | -1 | 7 | 0.88 | - Sacramen-toeJam / You're So Vain - I prefer Hiphop-apotamus vs Rhymenocerous as a parody brag song
- Sacramen-toeJam / You're So Vain - Points for the drop at 3:16 and for letting me know the Killers are still making music
- Sacramen-toeJam / I Want It All - Strange that the only place I can find this song on Spotify is on the Godzilla soundtrack. That must be an intentional statement about selling out, right? Looking forward to the comments on this.
I didn't like Rage when I was young, but liking them a lot more as I get older. Seems backwards.
- Sacramen-toeJam / I Want It All - Still a bit too hipster for my liking - I think I heard panpipes??. I can smell the IPA and see the goatees and thick black glasses from a continent away...
Still, this should do better than Arcade Fire did last game!
- Sacramen-toeJam / Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay - (8/10 lazy) Dear Lion in a Hammock:
* your lies are lazy
* you don't wanna change
* you treat me like a magazine
This song didn't sound good to me, particularly the melody.
- Sacramen-toeJam / Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay - (8/10) Ways to run away from 7 women and your own sex addiction:
* loosen load
* climb in to new woman's Ford
* look for lover who won't blow cover
Fun song, and now I know more about Winslow, Arizona.
- Sacramen-toeJam / I Want to Love You - New to me. Yorick? I don't think it fits with my interpretation of the theme much, but it's a pretty cool song.
- Sacramen-toeJam / I Want to Love You - This one's gotta be Elaine, right? I think the theme was intended to be about capital-L Lust, so even though I like some other songs more I'm giving this one full points for music, theme, uniqueness/novelty, and the Leonard Cohen-like introspective helplessness.

| Es | 2 | 2 | 0 | 2 | 1 | - New beginnings / Rediscovered - the 2000s had a lot of neat christian-rock-adjacent bands, didn't it? this one didn't hit me but i played the crap out of Meant to Live way back then...
- New beginnings / This isn't me - I know how you feel! I felt this way about the US before I left to live overseas - patriotism is a blunt identity hammer there sometimes rather than a love of actual principles or values - but I do like apple pie, and gravy on stuffing, etc
|
| Olaf Schoeman | 2 | 2 | 0 | 2 | 1 | - New beginnings / This isn't me - I like it. but the kind of leagues I'm in, usually Taylor gets downvoted close to 0 or -1... Good thing this isn't a downvote league!
