| Zach | 26 | 27 | -1 | 26 | 1 | - 2024, we hardly knew you / The holidays are here. - A little too bluesy/somber maybe? but still way better than the Backstreet Boys song I briefly considered choosing
- 2024, we hardly knew you / Smaller is Better - I'm down with the funk and hope we get some more
- Movie Music Magic / Thriller - a song from a movie that gives you the chills - i have no context for this song but feels like there might be an unusual thought process behind this selection
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song from a non-animated movie musical - Good find! Works well as a musical scene-setter, too.
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song used in a romantic moment in a movie - Is this a romantic scene? Neat movie and song, anyway
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite background score to a dramatic moment - nice throwback, remember watching this with my dad.
- Movie Music Magic / Favorite song sung by a character in a non animated movie - The original has long been a favorite of mine. The actors' version of it isn't as good, but it'd be petty to dock points for that. I don't remember the movie very well.
- Change of Pace / Good Riddance but also I Need You Back - A classic, which contains my favorite passive-aggressive lyric: I'm not out to go out and cheat all night / Just like you did, baby, but that's alright.
First of all, it's hilariously out of place with the rest of the song and secondly, just now I've realized that little chip on the shoulder, that he saves up to use as future ammunition, is how we know that the song is coming from real experiences and was not just a cash grab.
- Change of Pace / Better-than-Okay Boomer - I have a soft spot for this song even tho I'm not sure it holds up. But there's no Rob Thomas on this track, so that's a plus.
- Change of Pace / Stop, Wait a Minute - As someone not interested in either band, I had always assumed that Boston was basically Chicago except that they would mention where they went to school a lot more
- Hey DJ! / Tongue Twists - Most unexpected pick
- Hey DJ! / The Big Ask - My favorite this round, and it's paired with a great story.
- Hey DJ! / Cover Me Badly - you win the terrible musicality prize. I can't even get through a minute of this talentless slop, and that's coming from someone who listened to Shatner all the way through five times. I did skim through this song to make sure I didn't miss any redeeming features but I'm happy to report that there are none. I'm impressed you found such a bad song.
- Beginnings / Debut - So 90s. In retrospect, not surprising they never reached their peak again
- Beginnings / Beginnings - I have a soft spot for this band and I wish more people would vote for & choose more songs I haven't heard before, so here you go
- Beginnings / Original - Such a short simple loop, and so good
Comparing 90s R&B crossover hits, between Blackstreet and Ginuwine, I like No Diggity better for listening, but Pony is the better party/karaoke song.
- Beginnings / If At First You Don't Succeed - Liked it, but couldn't vote for this because piano man came out earlier. interesting to read about the lyrics and consider how it's become culturally inappropriate to pressure young women into relationships they don't want, unless you're Benson Boone, I guess, and exploit religion. Girl, you wouldn't want to make God sad, would you?
- Into the Void / Fairies Wear Boots - I don't know Californication super well, but still I must have deleted this from my memory
- Into the Void / Wishing Well - Thoughtful pick and a legendary artist
- Into the Void / Sweet Leaf - Just don't smoke on the sidewalk where I'm jogging for my health and we're all cool
- Music Through the Decades / The 2010s: Internet Aesthetics - I love this song
- Music Through the Decades / The 2020s: Soundtrack to the End (or Beginning) - Sure, I like it when people go with niche artists.
- Music Through the Decades / Time Traveler's Choice - Interesting find but not really my jam. I'm sure it's lots of other people's though.
- Music Through the Decades / The Lost Decade - Also not into hair bands, unfortunately...
