Fun with Friends Near and Far!

  • 20.000 SecondsK's Choice - Short and Sweet (or not) - #7 - 3 points - I’ve always liked this song. K’s Choice has quite a few short tracks, but 20.000 Seconds always stood out to me.
  • Her Majesty - Takes 1-3The Beatles - Short and Sweet (or not) - #7 - 3 points - Yes, this is technically the same song three times. And yes, even combined, they still don’t come close to the 2:30 limit.
  • Sweet Child O' MineJasmine Thompson - Kids songs - #3 - 7 points - This is a lullaby version of Sweet Child O’ Mine. I practiced this song a lot when I was first pregnant, almost ten years ago. For years, I sang it to my kids at bedtime. So for me, this will always be the ultimate kids song.
  • You've Got a Friend in MeRandy Newman - Kids songs - #5 - 5 points - You’ve Got a Friend in Me is a perfect example of a kids song that works just as well for adults. It’s warm, simple, and timeless, with a message that never really gets old.
  • PussyRammstein - Excellently Explicit - #4 - 6 points - You ask you explicit, so you get explicit! Ramstein, partly in English!
  • Me So Horny2 LIVE CREW - Excellently Explicit - #6 - 4 points - This one has a catchy tune, and catchy tunes tend to stay in my head. I hope someone accidentally mumbles this song somewhere is public... Wait, that would probably be me...
  • The Sound of SilenceDisturbed - Out of the ordinary - #5 - 4 points - This is one of my favourite songs ever. The first time I heard it, I was blown away by how beautiful his voice sounded. I immediately looked up more of their music, thinking I had found a new favourite band. Then I realised they were a metal band. I tried a few songs, but this really isn’t my genre. This cover is the exception, and it is absolutely perfect.
  • Mama, I'm Coming HomeOzzy Osbourne - Out of the ordinary - #1 - 8 points - Ozzy may be the Prince of Darkness, but this song shows a completely different side of him. When it came out, fans were surprised to hear him sing something this soft and emotional. After his final concert, this song felt even more powerful. A metal icon doing a heartfelt ballad. Very out of the ordinary.
  • StanEminem, Dido - Storytime! - #2 - 8 points - I used to see "Stan" on MTV and I was always glued to the screen. The letters, the slow unraveling, that final twist… and then Dido’s voice floating calmly above it all. That contrast between her softness and Stan’s breakdown makes the whole story unforgettable.
  • Hi RenRen - Storytime! - #2 - 8 points - I first saw "Hi Ren" on YouTube, and it immediately stuck with me. The whole song is Ren arguing with the darkest part of his own mind. The switches between voices and emotions make it feel like you’re watching an internal battle play out in real time.

  • Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Storytime! - Raw, gripping and honest. This indeed very much describes and makes you feel the sufferings of someone suffering from depression or psychosis. However, some form of this dialog is present in everyone. There is a lot of emotion in his delivery, and the simple guitar does a great job in supporting this great portrayal. Didn't know this song, so thank you for submitting.
  • Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Storytime! - A classic in storytelling and a great illustration of obsessive fans. For me, It lacks development musically to underpin the escalation in the story. but that's likely a stylistic choice. The delivery and flow however is unmatched. A great song.
  • Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Out of the ordinary - I'm conflicted on this one. It's great vocal and orchestral performance, and it's an emotional song. Sure, after the first crescendo, the rest of the song is a bit too predictable for my taste, but on paper, I should have really enjoyed listening to it, but instead I didn't feel too much either way. Maybe it was because I felt his voice lost its emotional power when the song started to develop in intensity.
  • Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Out of the ordinary - Two Ozzy ballets? Come on... we can do better than that. A nice ballet nonetheless, and for me, one of his better songs. It's very warm with great timbre with an iconic bridge. But it also lacks for me the vocal performance and virtuosity to really deliver an emotional message. The melody is enjoyable, but the fairly straightforward harmonics and standard rhythm keep it from being an excellent song for me.
  • Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Excellently Explicit - Culturally, a big impart on artistic freedom. The message is clear, and it has a good hook, but besides that there isn't much there for me. The lyrics aren't even that bad, but the delivery is horrible.
  • Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Excellently Explicit - As always, powerful vocals, yeah... it's a clear message, but very one dimensional. Also, the song is formulaic with little to no development.
  • Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Kids songs - Cute, small and wholesome. What else do you want in a kids song.
  • Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Kids songs - Some parts work reaaaally well in this version, but other parts just take me out of the spell.
  • Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Short and Sweet (or not) - Cute, more songs should be like this. A simple concept, worth 30 seconds and simply don't repeat 5 times
  • Fun with Friends Near and Far! / Short and Sweet (or not) - warm, vulnerable and honest.
