He was newly divorced, no bank acct access, semi-homeless,& his FF bandmates were leaving him. At that lowpoint he wrote about how it felt to be so crazy about someone that being together feels like singing together in harmony ("breathe out so I can breathe you in"), and the result became the final encore of every Foo Fighters concert. I like the Rick Astley and acoustic versions too, but the original is still the best.
