Submission history
New beginnings
- RitualGoodjohn Productions - Instrumental - #4 - 10 points - No idea how I came across this but I thought it sounded awesome. I was also worried it might have been AI with an artist name like that. Turns out it's a music producer who just loves making music which he then sells to whomever for they're own projects. Wildly different corner of the musical scene, but glad it wasn't AI!
- Forget-Me-NotLaufey - This isn't me - #4 - 11 points - Elena has introduced us to Laufey a while ago, even going to a concert together. I listened to the latest album to prepare for this concert and while most is nice jazz and bossa nova type stuff, this one stuck out from the very first listen. There's no beat, it's slow but the only way I can describe it's is that it is enchanting. It's in my favorite list now and sticks out like a sore thumb but I never skip it. So beautiful.
- Waste Your YouthScooter - Rediscovered - #3 - 11 points - I grew up with these guys and recently discovered they are still making music! They barely changed and are still going strong with big beats and zany lyrics. They are responsible for such classic lyrics as "Respect to the man in the ice cream van!" and "How much is the fish?". This track came out in 2024 and made me laugh with "When nothing goes right, go left!" Such simple wisdoms.
Fun with Friends Near and Far!
- MiserlouDick Dale & His Del-Tones - Short and Sweet (or not) - #1 - 10 points - Oooh, I've been looking for an excuse to submit this one and this round works! Forget Pulp Fiction, this track rocks just fine in its own!
- Super Disco Breakin' - Remastered 2009Beastie Boys - Short and Sweet (or not) - #7 - 3 points - This could've fit in the last round as well. One of my first albums and I can still sing most of this song by heart. Favorite lyric: "When I'm in Holland, I eat the pannenkoeken!" (the pronunciation is quite off, but I always appreciated the effort)
- ChicagoMichael Jackson - Kids songs - #9 - 0 points - Posthumously released in 2014. Johan has always been into MJ and he's been listening to this one a lot recently and suggested it. I actually hadn't heard the XSCAPE album yet, so perhaps this is a new MJ for some of you as well!
- Rainbow To The StarsDune - Kids songs - #2 - 8 points - One of the few albums I bought with the little allowance I had at 10 years old. I actually still listen to this album to this day! Another one was Aqua with hits such as Barbie Girl and Dr. Jones, but those haven't aged as well for me, hah!
- I'm On A BoatThe Lonely Island, T-Pain - Excellently Explicit - #1 - 15 points - The Lonely Island made songs regularly for SNL. First objective: be funny and entertaining. But even though they used over the top rap tropes and explicit lyrics to crank up the funny, they sometimes struck gold as well. This song is actually good. Catchy, lyrically strong (if you appreciate the humor) and finally a round where the excessivlu explicit lyrics are the assignment. I really like this song!
- Fuck EverythingDan Bull - Excellently Explicit - #3 - 9 points - Not new discovery for some of you, but it's the best one I got. I love how some stuff has got you thinking how offensive it is, the next has you fervently agreeing and then you hear one that reminds you it's really just a joke song. Fuck convoluted train time tables! Oh yes, and since I submitted this once before: fuck repetition and fuck repetition!
- #1 Radio $inglePsychostick - Out of the ordinary - #3 - 6 points - Typically known for their comedic metal and the odd satirical cover. The boys sat down to write an honest pop song capable of reaching the #1 spot! We'll blame the "establishment" for not actually reaching the top.
- In BetweenLinkin Park - Out of the ordinary - #5 - 4 points - You heard him rap in the previous round, something Mike Shinoda typically does for his main gig as well among the the ripping Linkin Park guitars we're used to. But this song, this album, was a huge change. Some calmer, reflective songs and this peculiar song with Mike singing solo. Like it or not, it's definitely not something you'd expect from LP or MS!
- KenjiFort Minor - Storytime! - #4 - 6 points - A short history lesson that's showing scary parallels to today. Let's hope everyone gets to return home and get passed the injustice done.
- TributeTenacious D - Storytime! - #1 - 10 points - A continual question asked during all these leagues: what is the greatest and best song in the world? We may not have actually heard it, but is has been played at least once and kept the world safe from demonkind. This is just a tribute of that auspicious moment.
The Singularity
- Hi RenRen - Irreplaceable - #3 - 5 points - The complete artistry, insanity, genius and well... humanity of this song could never be AI.
- like JENNIEJENNIE - Irreplaceable - #5 - 3 points - "Special edition that your AI couldn't copy!" It's right there! In all seriousness, I know K-pop is engineered through and through, but there is originality in the beats and hamonies in this song that AI wouldn't be able to come up with at random.
- Sweet Dreams (Are Made Of This)Emily Browning - This is Fine - #2 - 5 points - Such a good version. It starts nice and slow but builds up like a noisy... machine? Sweet dreams!
- You Asked for ItEmmure - This is Fine - #5 - 1 points - A joke song made by the band because fans asked for. Now, get back to work!
- Inside the Winter StormDragonForce - John Henry - #4 - 4 points - In the previous league I stated there were better Dragonforce songs than the usual "Through the fire and flames", and this seems like a great opportunity to use one! Dragonforce has been accused of speeding up their songs... that it was impossible to play that fast. They've proven everyone wrong live and on stage ever since!
- The Diva DanceÉric Serra, Inva Mula - John Henry - #3 - 5 points - While the vocals were sung by an actual blue alien, they were long believed impossible for mere humans due to the wide vocal range and rapid changes. There are some respectable attempts to be found on YouTube, but no one beats Diva Plavalaguna. I've spared you the full aria that precedes this iconic bit. You're welcome!
- Words, Words, Words (Studio)Bo Burnham - Embiggened Language Model - #7 - 1 points - The man is a true word smith! There a couple of guys like this in NL, but that wouldn't work so well in this league.
- AbracadabraLady Gaga - Embiggened Language Model - #3 - 5 points - I may not be the biggest fan of this particular song, but the language model definitely glitched out on this one.
- AlchemistSavant, Gino Sydal - Man vs Machine - #5 - 3 points - The first I've heard and still my all time favorites of Savant! This song is paired with the Prelude elsewhere in this playlist, which was made 10 years after this one. It's a great contrast between orchestral and electronic music. BY THE SAME ARTIST!
- Alchemist PreludeSavant - Man vs Machine - #5 - 3 points - A pairing of songs! The original Alchemist (also in this playlist) was reimagined 10 years after its original release into this. While I'm not convinced it's a real orchestra, the contrast between orchestral and electronic music is amazing. If you want to give points and can't decide, give 'em to the original, kthnx!
Into the Void
- Drugs From AmsterdamMau P - Sweet Leaf - #9 - 1 points - Submitting this song is downright criminal, but it had to be done. NL Represent! I'll also add a prediction that a Bob Marley song will win the round, which I probably should have submitted if I wanted better chances of winning...
- Katrinah JosephinaUniversal Hall Pass - Wishing Well - #10 - 1 points - A weird one for y'all! A desperate plea from down below "don't dare let go"!
- Laser SharksSavant - Neon Knights - #2 - 13 points - This epic theme song ticks all the boxes of this prompt! Like the Biker Mice from Mars, but better!
- UNEXPECTED [DIST.]HYDE - Spiral Architect - #9 - 5 points - The lyrics may not be anything to write home about... But slowly unfolding to a big climax is what this song does best!
- Cold Water MusicAim - Fairies Wear Boots - #9 - 4 points - This is one straight from my teenage years. Ethereal and somehow truly invoking that "cold water" vibe. I wonder what came first; the music or the title? I'm not doing this one for the points so I'll hide my comment this time. I hope someone liked it.
- Hold Me, Thrill Me, Kiss Me, Kill Me - From 'Batman Forever'U2 - N.I.B. - #9 - 4 points - The villain part relates to this being on the Batman Forever soundtrack and I always associated it with Harvey Two Face. The true meaning of the song about being a rock star jives much more with the rest of the prompt.
Hey DJ!
- My Heart Will Go OnDragonForce - Cover Me Badly - #6 - 8 points - This song destroys in both positive and negative ways. And yes, I know this is a Music League repeat... But it's the best pick!
- Fuck YouLily Allen - $@#?! - #3 - 11 points
- Would You...?Touch & Go - The Big Ask - #10 - -3 points - Classic Freudian slip... (this would've been an excellent pick for the Horn-y round, eh!)
- Holiday In SpainCounting Crows, BLØF - Tongue Twists - #6 - 8 points - This may be my only chance I get to introduce the wonderful Dutch band BLØF to you all. Universal approached them to so this collab with The Counting Crows back in 2004. A fusion of two great voices and languages!
- WAP (feat. Megan Thee Stallion)Cardi B, Megan Thee Stallion - Guilty Pleasures - #2 - 10 points - If you feel the need to apologize for a song, it probably fits in this round! So... I'm sorry, but somehow this song is oddly fascinating and maybe even feministic?
Change of Pace
- Short Skirt / Long JacketCAKE - Stop, Wait a Minute - #2 - 13 points - Dramatic pause at 0:50!
- EuphoriaMuse - Better-than-Okay Boomer - #5 - 10 points - First album released in 1999 and these guys are still going strong today. One of the best live performances you'll ever see!
- Me So Horny2 LIVE CREW - Not Horny Enough - #10 - 2 points - No substitution necessary!
- Soul ManSam & Dave - Horn-y - #1 - 17 points - My dad was so hyped about this one back in the day, especially the part when the brass kicks in!
- AngelsRobbie Williams - Old Enough! はじめてのおつかい - #8 - 6 points - From Take That to this, which launched his solo career. The man has had quite a run since!
- The ReasonHoobastank - Good Riddance but also I Need You Back - #9 - 2 points - It's a bit of a personal one, perhaps I'll dish the story in the gossip group one day ;)
Movie Music Magic
- Beelzeboss (The Final Showdown)Tenacious D - Favorite song sung by a character in a non animated movie - #3 - 14 points - This is not some silly musical track here. This is a historical recording of how two unsuspecting street performers defeated the devil himself!
- ElysiumKlaus Badelt, Lisa Gerrard, Gavin Greenaway, The Lyndhurst Orchestra - Favorite background score to a dramatic moment - #1 - 18 points - Commodus has been slain in a brutal final fight. As Maximus catches glimpses of Elysium he relays Marcus Aurelius's last wishes and falls to the ground. After his final words he walks the fields of Elysium, opens the door and is reunited with his family at last. The music is beautiful and bittersweet supporting this dramatic moment of triumph and the death of a great hero. The end of one of the best movies out there (that didn't really need that sequel, now did it?)
- Lovers - Flower GardenShigeru Umebayashi, Bi Xiaodi, Shuai Wang - Favorite song used in a romantic moment in a movie - #7 - 9 points - Not Zhang Yimou's best film, but perhaps it does contain his best soundtrack. This track is from the romantic, but tragic wuxia classic film House of Flying Daggers.
- Rewrite The StarsZac Efron, Zendaya - Favorite song from a non-animated movie musical - #2 - 14 points - This was actually a tough pick for me. I would've picked something Wicked, but I felt going just a little less obvious. This song is almost 8 years old!
- Speed (Movie Main Theme)Soundtrack/Cast Album - Thriller - a song from a movie that gives you the chills - #9 - 3 points - Classic 90s thriller. With Keanu!
- Advent: One-Winged AngelNobuo Uematsu - Favorite original song from an animated movie - #6 - 10 points - Disney, Ghibli, modern and classic all passed my review. I would've picked Frozen 2's "Show yourself" which might have gotten some good points! But then my intrusive thoughts found a loophole and I had to throw this curveball... Mix favorite game with best animated movie and you get this masterpiece of classical/metal fusion. I don't expect many points but this is the true favorite right here. While this may not be what the category was originally about, I stayed true to the round instructions.
- He's a PirateKlaus Badelt - Favorite movie title song/theme song - #9 - 6 points - First one that came to mind!
Lady Chatterwhistle's Gossip-Drama League
- Never Fade AwaySAMURAI, Refused - Drama, Actually... and Tease (Epilogue and Cliffhanger) - #4 - 6 points - The story may be over, but our characters will never fade away.
- The Devil Went Down to GeorgiaSteve Ouimette - Bad Habit (the Nun's Tale) - #3 - 8 points - When the devil on her shoulder became too bold, Johnny came to her rescue with his gold fiddle. This song tells the story of how he got it. Johnny and the former nun lived happily ever after, much in love.
- Whatcha SayJason Derulo - Bondage and Duty (the Queen's Tale) - #2 - 10 points - Our killer queen ended up getting in a lovers quarrel with a bunch of people! What it a misunderstanding? Did they mean well? Who knows, but everyone got shot and died. This song perfectly encapsulates that dramatic moment. If you know, you know.
- The Power Of LoveHuey Lewis & The News - Bedroom Experiment (The Scientist's Tale) - #3 - 6 points - Martin found his one true love in this time period and while being chased by an assassin he found a way to power his time machine to escape in the nick of time. The scientist went "back to the future" through the Power of Love.
- A Way HomeHouses - Grasping and Heaving (Story Goals) - #2 - 9 points - Our characters just want to find a place they belong. A place to call home. Perhaps home is what you make of it with someone else? Or in case of our time traveler... not where but when...
- Nobody's WifeAnouk - Throbbing Attraction (Character) - #3 - 5 points - Anouk's mother may desperately want her daughter to get married. But she's and independent spirit and quite a handful. More importantly, she's nobody's wife!
- RetreatI Am Waiting for You Last Summer - Play Submission (Setting) - #2 - 7 points - How's that for a dramatic intro!? Now that post-rock is an option I might give it some more appearances. Um, the setting is a summer retreat it seems.
SacramentoJam Vol 7 - Honorary Sacramentan Edition
- Hymn for the Greatest GenerationCaspian - No vocals needed - #1 - 9 points - It's a relatively long one, but the journey is just as important as the musical destination. The build up, the climax and then gently letting you come back down. Best to listen in one go in a place where you can focus and let yourself get carried away. Welcome to the world of post-rock!
- VivaceTom Hillock, Nicolas Boscovic - No vocals needed - #3 - 6 points - I tried to stay away from soundtracks, which are often wonderful instrumental tracks but they do get better with the context of where they come from. This came across my Spotify at random and I still listen to it today solely based on its own merit. Not much to find on this song or the artists, other than that it was used in a trailer at some point in 2020.
- Thunder - Radio EditEast 17 - Childhood nostalgia - #9 - -3 points - One from my mom. One of those cd's on repeat on long trips to France. It was either this or Ace of Base. All fond memories.
- ShoutTears For Fears - Childhood nostalgia - #5 - 4 points - One from my dad. I remember listening to this and various other TfF tracks in the car. Never understood the lyrics because I didn't understand English yet. Interesting listening to them now.
- TiK ToKKesha - Party picks - #4 - 7 points - Going way out of my comfort zone on this one, but party music it is!
- One More TimeDaft Punk - Party picks - #6 - 5 points - Celebrate!
- La solitudineLaura Pausini - Words don't matter - #5 - 3 points - We were talking about powerful female vocalists and this always stuck with me. This 1993 keyboard demo like track is entirely vindicated by that wonderful voice and melody... So great. Never looked up the translation.
- Mundian To Bach KePanjabi MC - Words don't matter - #3 - 5 points - Such a classic banger! No idea what he's saying but the Knight Rider theme mixed with whatever this is is just great. I never tire of hearing it haha
SacramentoJam Vol 6 - Whoa
- Theme - From "The A-Team"Daniel Caine Orchestra - Bachelor Nanny TV (Soldier of illusion, Documentary Now) - #7 - 3 points - Because all the other stuff was already taken. At least I hope someone enjoyed the nostalgia trip! Minus me for not sticking to the theme if you have to heh
- Main Title (from the Television Series "Knight Rider")Stu Phillips - Bachelor Nanny TV (Soldier of illusion, Documentary Now) - #8 - 1 points - Because all the other stuff was already taken. At least I hope someone enjoyed the nostalgia trip! Minus me for not sticking to the theme if you have to heh
- Mississippi QueenMountain - Country Cover (Beyonce) - #1 - 7 points - During my research I found that the country music comes from the south. The Mississippi is in the south... Does this count?
- Ain't No Rest For The WickedCage The Elephant - Country Cover (Beyonce) - #2 - 6 points - I don't know nottin bout country y'all. So I'll just use this as an excuse to shoehorn this great track in here.
- Hey Ya!Outkast - Beach Mismatch. Are your choices Kenenough! (Barbie) - #4 - 6 points - Such an odd song lyrics wise, but such a huge happy hit.
- TodayThe Smashing Pumpkins - Beach Mismatch. Are your choices Kenenough! (Barbie) - #3 - 7 points - Lyrics speak for themselves, but hey... Singing about the greatest day is often misunderstood!
- PapaoutaiStromae - Sacré Bleu! A day in the life of Michel(Gilmore Girls) - #3 - 6 points - I just went with my favorite French songs for this one. And what better to drown out others speaking than more speaking in French? Surprised this wasn't already picked...
- La tribu de DanaManau - Sacré Bleu! A day in the life of Michel(Gilmore Girls) - #5 - 4 points - Oldie but a goodie. They made us go through this line by line in French class back in the day. Still great track tho!
SacramentoJam Volume 5 - Mr. Wiffles' Catnip Jams
- Nothing Else MattersPhoebe Bridgers - Cover me! - #3 - 6 points - I originally had Smooth Criminal by Alien Antfarm. Then I randomly turned on the next episode of Gen V and this song opened the episode. That's it! I thought. And here we are. Did you like it?
- My Heart Will Go OnDragonForce - Cover me! - #7 - 2 points - Zach also mentioned a cover of this song. Let's see if he followed through. This was the song I was thinking of when coming up with this category tho. So I hope you all enjoyed!
- Back To The Future - Original Score/End CreditsThe Outatime Orchestra - Let's go to the movies! - #1 - 9 points - So many movies would've made the cut, but this series is still Al all time favorite. Watching it with the kids first time was awesome and they were really into it. These movies truly stood the rest of time.
- Now We Are FreeHans Zimmer, Klaus Badelt, Lisa Gerrard, Gavin Greenaway, The Lyndhurst Orchestra - Let's go to the movies! - #2 - 8 points - It's the emotional connection to this song that makes it so good. Curious to see how it will do with this crowd. No idea how many have seen and remembered this movie.
- Freak On a LeashKorn - Say what now? - #7 - 1 points - In the music video he was talking to a bullet. But what was he saying?
- Smells Like Teen SpiritNirvana - Say what now? - #2 - 7 points - Even Weird Al couldn't figure it out!
- MF BASSCyber - We're going HARD! - #5 - 2 points - This probably won't be popular in this group... But those base drops tho!
- In StereoFort Minor - We're going HARD! - #5 - 2 points - Man, this beat is hard!
SacramentoJam Volume 4 -Alicorn Stardust
- Mexican Phonk EkiNUEKI, TOLCHONOV - Guilty Pleasures - #6 - 2 points - Johan and his team mates introduced me to the Phonk genre. This is a special offshoot from the genre that adds a nice Mexican flavor. I hope y'all found the diversity refreshing!
- Defying Gravity - From "Wicked" Original Broadway Cast Recording/2003Stephen Schwartz, Kristin Chenoweth, Idina Menzel, Stephen Oremus - Guilty Pleasures - #5 - 3 points - I'm a sucker for musical albums. I only listen to these in the car and on my own. It adds a bit of story to the experience and the vocals are often fantastic! Favorite female vocalist? Idina Menzel hands down.
- Let It Snow! Let It Snow! Let It Snow!Dean Martin - But Wait—There’s Myrrh - #5 - 3 points - This is used in all christmas movies at some point.
- Baby, It's Cold OutsideZooey Deschanel, Leon Redbone - But Wait—There’s Myrrh - #8 - 0 points - Zooey Deschanel is a surprisingly likeable singer. And Elf is a true xmas classic!
- OrangePsychostick - I Love You, Man? - #7 - 1 points - You may not like the song, but are you really going to give a minus point to oranges? They're round and juicy and sweet!
- The MetalTenacious D - I Love You, Man? - #7 - 1 points - Love THE METAL!
- Smoke on the WaterDeep Purple - Back to Basics: School of Rock 101 - #5 - 3 points - Yes! More Deep Purple! Everyone knows this one! Might not be the most popular, but the riff is excellent (and super easy to play haha)
- Once In A LifetimeDragonForce - Back to Basics: School of Rock 101 - #5 - 3 points - Dragon force is my jam. This may have been the first song I heard and it's just so dang HAPPY. Not your typical metal and half the song is guitar solos!
SacramentoJam Disk 3 - Hamster Edition

- Happy, Happy Birthday BabyThe Tune Weavers - Happy Birthday! - #6 - 5 points - Sadly a second choice, someone took my other one! Found this one in my search and it's a good listen. I hope y'all can agree!
- Cake By The OceanDNCE - Hungry for more - #5 - 7 points - Songs that I could think of and that might actually score points.
- Watermelon SugarHarry Styles - Hungry for more - #3 - 9 points - Songs that I could think of and that might actually score points.
- Love Is The DrugOscar Isaac, Carla Gugino - It takes two - #8 - 1 points - Who knew Oscar Isaac could sing? This was a bonustrack on the soundtrack for feverdream of a film Sucker Punch. Always stuck with me!
- A Whole New WorldLea Salonga, Brad Kane, Disney - It takes two - #2 - 8 points - Come on, peeps, a classic duet! Can I get some nostalgia points over here?
- The Kingdom of Dreams (Main Title Theme)David Buckley - I have a dream! - #7 - 4 points - No lyrics! Soundtracks are actually one of my favorite genres to listen to. I don't expect this to get a lot of points. But please watch the show if you haven't yet. It's really something special!
- Dream OnAerosmith - I have a dream! - #3 - 8 points - One of my favorite songs. Aerosmith somehow has a special place even though Steven Tyler is a weirdo.
"Sacramen-toJam - Disk 2, hidden tracks - Halloween"

Sacramen-toeJam
- CreepRadiohead - I Want to Love You - #4 - 8 points - With the other song choice I was already in a mood I guess, but this is simply a great song. Let's see what you all think...
- Where the Wild Roses Grow - 2011 - RemasterNick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Kylie Minogue - I Want to Love You - #8 - 2 points - Infatuation with a dark twist.
- Lazy BonesGreen Day - Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay - #2 - 8 points - Instead of The Lazy Song by Bruno Mars.
- Why Don't You Get A JobThe Offspring - Sittin' on the Dock of the Bay - #2 - 8 points - Second song to come to mind.
- LIES GREED MISERYLinkin Park - I Want It All - #6 - 4 points - Good ol' Linkin Park. Fits the theme, tho a little bit off the beaten path here. I hope you all enjoyed this one!
- Material GirlMadonna - I Want It All - #2 - 10 points - I can't stand this song. I submitted it for the points. Come at me!
- Legend (ft. Backchat)Jaroslav Beck, Crispin, Backchat - You're So Vain - #6 - 4 points - Great track from the VR game Beat Saber. Always gets me hyped and inflates my ego when singing along in the car!
- Princes Of The Universe - Remastered 2011Queen - You're So Vain - #5 - 5 points - My favorite Queen song. Lyrics make more sense when you know this was the soundtrack to one of the Highlander movies. Big claim to make tho!

- Next To MeIlse DeLange - Next! - #6 - 3 points - Some Dutch pride for you all! "Don't care where we're going as long as you are NEXT to me!"
- The Next EpisodeDr. Dre, Snoop Dogg - Next! - #3 - 6 points - Lah-da-da-da-dah
- Kill This LoveBLACKPINK - Horn-y - #3 - 6 points - Kpop sure is good at being catchy! The whole industry is kinda whack, but hey... they produce results that make for good listening.
- Fuck EverythingDan Bull - Horn-y - #7 - -2 points - I'm so sorry... Emma made me do it (not entirely). If anything, I hope it got more laughs than frowns!
- Sweet Child O' MineGuns N' Roses - Back in time - #6 - 2 points - First pick when I read the category description! And really... who doesn't love Guns n' Roses?
- Child in TimeDeep Purple - Back in time - #6 - 2 points - My dad listened to the Made in Japan album a ton when I was a kid. Obviously Smoke On The Water and Highway Start are great jams, but this song always stuck with me. Especially the screams around the 3 and 8 minute marks used to scare the sh*t out of me as a kid... It's still chilling now. Only when I looked it up again just now I noticed the title and lyrics can fit this category as well.
