I could have chosen any of the immense collection of amazing classical music out there. But as much as I love certain classical composers, I have a soft spot for film composers. One of my favorites is Alexandre Desplat, who composed music for (among others) The King's Speech and The Shape of Water, and this movie. I chose this one because it has a great repeating rhythm and is still different at each repetition. Also, my sincere apologies to Hans Zimmer, John Williams, Christophe Beck, Rachel Portman, Howard Shore, and so many others. You are all amazing. I wish I could pick all of you. If you have time listen to Ripples in the Sand, which was my first choice but has vocalization in it.

You want instruments? Okay, here's 2. And just 2. Saw Rodrigo y Gabriela live, twice. The energy is amazing. You gotta see them to believe your ears. [If you haven't seen them perform, I recommend YouTube.]

It has Big band, it has Jazz, gospel AND it has Mario? And all of that in this ridiculously ambitious arrangement and a performance that has the energy levels off the charts! I can’t stop listening. Whenever my daughter hears it, she doesn’t just dance, she sprints laps through the living room, like that’s the only way to match what this song is doing.

I always liked this on road trips growing up. The road trips were usually down California's Central Valley, so there were no waves. But this song almost made me think I was on the coast, as long as I could block out the smell of cow manure.

No idea how I came across this but I thought it sounded awesome. I was also worried it might have been AI with an artist name like that. Turns out it's a music producer who just loves making music which he then sells to whomever for they're own projects. Wildly different corner of the musical scene, but glad it wasn't AI!

    The epitome of western epics

  9. DesideroFranz Gordon, Hanna Ekström, Anna DagerSubmitted by Happy Lucky

Desidero translates to ‘I long for,’ and this track lives up to its name with every note. It starts as a quiet piano and cello murmur, but once the violin enters, the yearning becomes palpable. It’s the equivalent of rain on a windowpane and a long walk home—a masterclass in restraint that proves you don't need a full orchestra to tell a story this hauntingly beautiful.

Not what I would call a typical instrumental, but there are no words here - just vibe. This song sounds like what the early 2000s felt like, and is a great representation of Linkin Park's influence on our culture.
